This low-profile Tico family-run place is more conveniently located than the nearby Hotel Arco Iris, which is up a long hill. We got a room with a jungle-view balcony (totally worth it, considering the blandness of the non-balcony rooms IMO) for only $40/night, which was probably because the non-English-speaking housekeeper checked us in. Later visitors were told $50. Next-day laundry... more

We came into Costa Rica and took an interbus shuttle up to Monteverde with an idea of where we wanted to stay, assuming that since it was not the busy season there would be no problem. We did not get to stay where we initially thought we would be and set out with our backpacks to try and find something... more

When we arrived at Quetzal Inn, Pilar, the proprietress regarded us with a great deal of suspicion, even after she confirmed we had a reservation. The location was extremely convenient to downtown Santa Elena. The room, tho' very dark, was clean enough, but smelled musty and no one came in to make the beds or empty the garbage the whole... more

we stayed at hotel quetzal on the reccomendation from friends. we arrived waited 45 minutes to be checked in. i finally took the key myself from behind the counter. most hotels in the area book tours, arrange transportation, etc. this is quite important here. they do not do this for you. there was supposed to be breakfast included but from... more

If you are looking for resort style accommodations or something scenic then this is not the place. Instead, if you are traveling which I guess any one would want to in Monteverde, and are looking to coming back tired after a full days adventure to a nice clean room, with hot water and clean and comfortable beds on a budget... more

My husband and I really enjoyed the Quetzal Inn. The service was amazing. The rooms are dark, but we spent most of our time outside or in the common area. It was clean and affordable. We enjoyed the location. We walked 2 minutes to a bakery for breakfast. The inn is off the main road, down a lane with flowers.... more

When we were in Santa Elena, we first stayed one night in a really bad hostel. Well, what can you expect for $7 pppn? Nothing, I suppose. Moreover it was cold when we were there. It was only 16 degrees Celcius and very WINDY; thus bad night. That day we just walked around to look for a better place to... more

We had a great time at this adorable little place right in the middle of Santa Elena. Appreciated the jacuzzi, though the hot water did run out before we could fully enjoy it! But the only real complaint (and it's a half-complaint at that) is the lighting situation -- kinda dire. It's wood-paneled and very dark. Still, it's got character,... more
