On our trip a long Costa Rica, trying to keep money, casa Tranquilo was the best option in Santa Elena. Only for the banana bread this all make sense! Small private rooms, kitchen with everything you may need, and full of travellers to chat with for a while!

I stayed here for four nights in a dorm. The bed and bathroom were nice with hot showers. The breakfast is great and fills you up for the morning - eggs, banana bread, coffee and fruit. The receptionists were very helpful and helped book tours and provide directions. Very nice place for only $10!

We had a private room, clean but cold (you could feel the wind blowing through the cracks in the wall). The kitchen is a bit on the small side and could be better equipped but its not a big problem. The wifi was strong. The free breakfast is a bit on the small side, especially the fruit which was just... More

Rooms are good, nice free breakfast. The guy at front desk in the morning is very nice and friendly, the guy sit at front desk at night is stupid with terrible attitude. For hostel, this one is a good choice at this price, but I believe there are other better choices in this area.

We stayed in Casa tranquilo because good friends recommended it to us. And it was totally worth every dollar we spent. We've been travelling since 3 weeks before we got there and have never spent that much time in the hostel before ... stuff, people and sitting area were just perfect for a good catch up and getting to know... For 11$ a night with tax this character hostal is a good fit for the budget traveler of costa rica. Including a tasty breakfast (fruit, home baked banana bread, an egg and unlimited tea or coffee). I recommend cooking up some gallo pinto yourself the night before and heating it up in the morning, as it was still a little... More

I wish we had stayed at this hostel for more than one night. We had a quick trip in Monteverde, but if I would have known how amazing this little town is I would have planned for a longer stay. Casa Tranquilo is a unique little hostel with VERY friendly and helpful service. Also has a little vegetarian restaurant next... More

Stayed 2 nights in private room. Room was large and really good value Service was friendly and helpful and included breakfast was great. Location is convenient to Santa Elena town centre and bus to Monteverde cloud forest is on the corner out front. It's about 1.5hr downhill walk from the cloud forest back which the hostel recommended and was a... More

I stayed in the dorm. For $11 per night including as fantastic breakfast it was a bargain. Emelle and Ronald on the front desk were extremely helpful. If you're going to go zip lining they can book you onto 100% adventura - I had been given three recommendations to use 100% and it was awesome!!
