The owner of the place was pretty cool but the staff is terrible. About 30 minutes before the bus showed up to leave monteverda I wanted to take a shower. The front desk guy refused to give me a towel without a $5 deposit. I didn't have cash and they don't take card and wouldn't hold my passport for collateral.... More

Perfect hostel for backpackers, who are in Monteverde to experience all the great activities. The owner knows all about the many different companies that offers these activities and offers his advice. There is breakfast included in the price and it is generally a cheap places to stay, but the beds are comfortable and the staff really nice and welcoming. We... More

Me and my girlfriend we arrived without accommodation in Monteverde and we were convinced in the bus station to see El Tucan. The private room with bathroom looked ok and we checked in. Big mistake. The hostel is at the main road between hills and is very noisy because of the cars or motorcycles trying to climb the hills. The... More

We arrived late in Santa Elena and were too exhausted to keep checking rooms, so decided to go with El Tuncan as the owner promised us a great price, discount on tours and a good breakfast included. The truth is all he is interested in is your money! We hadn't even had a chance to put down our bags, and... More

The place itself is good for backpackers: clean and rather unexpensive. Unfortunately I have to say the employees weren't the most pleasent since they were always trying to drag us in some kind of tourist trap... We get it that you guys count on the activities your guests do to make your profit but can we please put our bags... More

While our stay wasn't terrible, this establishment really isn't concerned about you enjoying your trip as much as they are about taking your money. Rooms are really cheap/pretty clean and there are complimentary fresh eggs, pineapple, bananas, toast, and coffee for breakfast which is also nice. However, doing things outside of the hostel is a real pain because when asking... More

Tucan Hostel was amazing I wouldnt want to stay anywhere else. It couldnt have a better location in town, the bus stop is 10 meters away, its the perfect place to get food and right next to the bank. The service was great the staff are super friendly and always eager to help. It is a family run business which... More

I took a double bedroom with private bathroom, very good deal compared to many others in the town. the bed was clean and comfortable, 2 windows gave lots of daylight, bathroom was also fine. the noise was a problem due to its location at a major junction. staff are friendly and willing to give advice. breakfast was included, 2 eggs,... We stayed four nights in a private room with a bunk bed and shared bathroom, after being talked into looking at the hostel by Tony and his daughter at the bus station. Pros: Cheap! we paid 7 dollars pp per night reasonably bug free reasonably clean bathrooms common spaces they give you enough blankets reasonably comfortable mattresses our wooden room... More

The hostel itself was plain, but clean which is perfect for backpackers. The best part of the hostel was that it is a family run hostel and all the members of the family are super friendly and super helpful. They went out of their way to get us whatever we needed as well as provide us with all the information... More
