Tucan Hostel was amazing I wouldnt want to stay anywhere else. It couldnt have a better location in town, the bus stop is 10 meters away, its the perfect place to get food and right next to the bank. The service was great the staff are super friendly and always eager to help. It is a family run business which... More

I took a double bedroom with private bathroom, very good deal compared to many others in the town. the bed was clean and comfortable, 2 windows gave lots of daylight, bathroom was also fine. the noise was a problem due to its location at a major junction. staff are friendly and willing to give advice. breakfast was included, 2 eggs,... Pros: Cheap! we paid 7 dollars pp per night reasonably bug free reasonably clean bathrooms common spaces they give you enough blankets reasonably comfortable mattresses our wooden room... More

The hostel itself was plain, but clean which is perfect for backpackers. The best part of the hostel was that it is a family run hostel and all the members of the family are super friendly and super helpful. They went out of their way to get us whatever we needed as well as provide us with all the information... More

Very original place so stay. With its wooden building and interesting architecture plus affordable prices and amazingly helpful staff easily one of the best places we stayed in Costa Rica. Tony sets you up with everything you can possibly want and need and gladly helps you out even on very short notice. The communal kitchen is the place to meet... More

We didn't even stay here so don't take into our account the room rating how ever I have never had so much help from a hostel owner and staff! Tony was so helpful when we couldn't get onto our landlord, he called her consistently for 45 minutes, allowed us to use his wifi for no charge and organized all of... More

We were approached by the owner's daughter the night we arrived in Santa Elena. She was so nice to give us directions to Pension Elena, told us about Hostel El Tucan as another option, but encouraged us to go check out the other place first and come back if we wanted to spend the night there. We did come back... More

My friend and i stayed at El Tucan for 3 nights and we had a great experience. The staff was extremely accommodating and helped you with everything from tours, to general info, helping you figure out commutes and calling shuttles etc. The ambiance and people that hang out the hostel are wonderful as well. The only slightly annoying thing was... More

Ended up there because we were too exhausted to find another place. Room looked clean at first but after investigation in the middle of the night we found a rotten piece of meat under the bed... and a rat nest behind a small door meant to hide the brakers... Kitchen was rustic but usable, friendly staff and owner... ended up... More
