We just spent one night here and had a very good experience. Our room was very clean and appeared to have been recently decorated (room #1). The staff, Monkey, was helpful and booked us onto a fantastic night tour - it's one of our Costa Rican highlights, definitely a must do. We didn't get to sample the breakfast as we... More

At first sight everything looks good here, but in the night this place turned into a loud hostel with youngster screaming and running around until after 02:30 am. When i wanted to move to another hostel the next day, i had to pay for an extra night too. The staff and owner is very unfriendly and dont give anything about... More

This was the worst hostel/hotel experience we've ever had. We checked into our room at Hotel El Tucan and paid for 2 nights accomodation. We were given the sales pitch re. doing night time walk or ziplines by one of the junior staff who was perfectly pleasant, but said we'd have a look around before booking anything. We were told... It's a nice place to stay. The room and bathroom were clean. Only the shower is a bit strange, the water is super hot or cold. Nothing in between. Also the wall re super thin, so you basically hear everything. Nice breakfast with toast, eggs and some fruit (but you have to make it yourself). The staff is just really... More

This place is full of bed bugs.. need I say more? After spending a night I was covered in insanely itchy bites.. even some on my neck and face. I would suggest stearing clear. The staff were nice other than the (in my opinion) terrible way they dealt with this and the place was pretty good for someone backpacking but... More

I was here for three days and I enjoed very much the hotel, the city and the parks. The hotel is very nice, with a complete breakfast, clean, calm and the employees are kind, availabl and helpfull. I had a single room, at the first floor. I suggest it without any doubt.

We went to el tucan because the owner offered us a good price for our stay. When we got there he wouldn't give us the room key until we booked our zip lining with him. He was only concerned with getting our money. We reluctantly agreed to do the zip lining which was fantastic. When we returned to the hostel... More

Reasonably priced budget accommodation in a good location in Santa Elena. Comfortable enough private rooms & small dorms, although the walls are paper thin & every sound travels. Bathrooms are ok, often a little dirty & one was without toilet paper for over 24hours despite being brought to the staff's attention. There is a small kitchen & they provide free... More

we pulled into Monteverde after a long bus-boat-bus trip and were wary, hungry, tired and a little dirty from a full day. we were greeted by a friendly face and were checked in within 2 mins. after a nice warm shower the staff assisted with laundry and we went to eat a nice dinner at the Treehouse... a place to... There are only two bathrooms for more than 20 people! The check out is very early so it a thing to consider and also if you are a light sleeper because the hotel is located in a very noisy street! We ask for instructions to take a bus and the girl in the reception did not know (even if it... More
