Tony, the owner, charged us and another couple the price for private bathrooms, which we found out at the end of our stay, and refused to refund us. There was almost never anyone at Reception, and the information they gave on tours was not always accurate. A few times he left his kids at Reception, and they either completely ignored... More

Rooms are good and clean for an ok price and breaky is acceptable too. Unfortunately, we were asked which tour we wanted to book EVERY TIME we entered the common area... And were totally ingnored (aka not even replying to our Hello) once we decided to book our tours elsewhere (for cheaper, we asked the Tucan staff to get the... More

When we first arrived at this hotel we thought we had found a pretty good deal in a nice part of the town. There are lots of tours to do in this area and lots of tour agencies aswell offering services. We asked our hostel (of course) as to what tours we could do and what the prices were. He... More

Hostel El Tucan Tony, the owner, is a fast talking salesman who is not above recommending substandard tours and over charging for services. He highly recommended a morning wildlife tour for $30.00 per person that turned out to be nothing more than walking around the local residential area in the rain looking at birds in people's front yards. The tour... More

I was staying in Monteverde and I was walking by with my girlfriend and struck up a conversation with the owner Toni, he assured me of his hostel is worth a try. We decided to stay a night, clean comfy, nice breakfast, great staff, and a family welcome always. We came back to the el Tucan two more times on... More

My husband & I arrived in Monteverde, we knew we wanted to check out a few hostels in town, when we looked at El Tucan, it was clean, has a kitchen so we could prepare our own, hot water & TV area. Tony bargained with us on price & met our budget.....good place to stay, but owner alittle pushy, they can... More
