After going through reviews(TripAdvisor and other sites) of multiple places at Thattekad, we narrowed down on Hornbill camp based on +ve feedback in TripAdvisor. The location is wonderful overlooking the Periyar river and the accommodation is Tented giving an outdoor feeling. The Tent was spacious, ambience was good and nothing to worry about. We went there for birding and took... More

absolutely amazing flora and fauna to see here! definitely recommend watching the sunrise at the suspension bridge; early start but well worth it. i recommend booking to use the kayaks in the morning as soon as you arrive as these are popular - and it's understandable why (we saw a wild elephant the second time we did ours). the only... We were here towards the end of February and it was starting to get quite hot and humid though the tents were comfortable at night. If you are coming from a cool northern country it might be good to acclimatise first. Lovely Place,, very helpful staff but very laid back , . I endorse all the other positive comments -amazing... As part of a 2 week trip to Kerala, we spent one night at Hornbill Camp as one of our party was a keen birder and wanted to catch up on some local specialities. The scenery was idyllic and the (mosquito proof) tents great with in built shower (although occasionally low pressure) and toilet facilities. The hosts were very friendly,... More

Hornbill camp is in a fantastic location overlooking the river and surrounding hills. The 'tents' are in fact very comfortable and clean. Whilst it is clearly set up as a birding destination the scenery etc make it worth going for alone. The early morning bird walk gets you out and about in the cool of the morning and a chance... More

I would like to start by saying words are simply not enough to describe the vibrant beauty, warm loving service, and the blissful peace we experienced at this place. Though it may sound untrue, but honestly one cannot fathom the heavenly experience to be had at this place without actually visiting. The location is awe-striking, based at the river this... More

Fantastic location by the banks of the periyar river in african safari style fixed tent lodges. Comfortable, western toilet facilities. Meals all in - and they were great, tasty, plentiful and eaten in central communal space looking over river and out to sanctuary. Freedom to plan own itinerary with lots of opportunities to go out biking, discovering local area -... More

We stayed for 4 nights here in January and it was wonderful. Just what we hoped for. It's set in an incredibly quiet and peaceful location right on the river. The tents were very comfortable and spacious. We went out kayaking on the river everyday and were surrounded by stunning wildlife and views. The staff were lovely and really helpful.... More

We always devote some part of our winter trips to nature. Have traveled widely in tropics. We really enjoyed Hornbill on every level. Very nice tents, comfortable, mosquito free, with sisal floors. Not particularly fancy but way more than "just a step up from basic camping" as another reviewer said. Tents all have nice wood porches facing the lovely Periyar... More

We recently went there on a weekend from 27th December 2013 to 30th December 2013. We were a group of 6 people. It is mostly for the Bird Sanctuary and Naturalists, but we were just travellers looking for a break. Basic yet a very nice camp. Extremely nice staff and hospitality. It was a complete experience with activities like Kayaking,... More
