Conveniently located for the Battlefields area and for us particularly Rorke’s Drift and Isandhlwana it’s easily located being on the main road R33 south of Dundee. The couple of km track to the farm itself is across fields but easily done even in a small saloon car. The farmhouse room was en suite, very comfortable and well finished with good... More

Foy and Ann were great hosts, food was fresh from the gardens and rooms tidy and comfortable. The fire was wonderful and The dogs well mannered and charming. We had a great time with Foy guiding us around Rourke's Drift and Isandlwana. Amazing location.

This was our second stop on our first trip to South Africa. We really liked the set-up, a lovely old farmhouse on a working cattle farm in many hectares of land with Foy, the characterful owner and Anne, the excellent manager. We were warmly greeted and soon settled into our seats on the lawn joined by Anne who served up... More

This stop was our second on our first trip to South Africa. We had booked online and been given clear directions and a friendly response. We wouldn't have wanted to arrive after dark as the road up to the house is not the easiest if you are used to UK roads but once there a warm welcome awaits. The house... More

I have been to this country cattle farm and manor house in August 2011/2012 and most recently in July 2013. The last time I stayed nine nights. For a guy from New York City it is a very quiet, charming, majestic and scenic place to spend time; this cattle farm manor house. This is a life beyond the freeways, traffic,... More

After a very long drive from the coast we were very warmly welcomed to this extremely pretty and comfortable guest house. Our host could not have been more accommodating and I would highly recommend staying here. I hope one day to return.

I arrived on the Saturday evening, on my way back from guided tours of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana, so I missed being taken around by the host, Foy Vermaak. Nevertheless, as I had the great pleasure of sitting next to him at dinner I picked up additional detail from the battles, as well as additional fascinating material concerning his family,... More

Was thinking back to our trip in the year 2000 through South Africa remembering the places visited, and thought that I would look up the Penny Farthing on the Internet to see if Foy and Anne were still at the place. It is great to see that they still are, we had a lovely time here in 2000, and judging... More

I really cannot add anything to the previous reviews. We arrived very late, in the dark, after a nightmare drive down from the Kruger. We'd been through thunder, lightening, the biggest hailstones out, and lots of roadworks, so were very tired and hungry. Foy was so welcoming, and Anne had managed to keep a lovely meal in perfect condition for... More

This place is special. We stayed there in April to visit the Zulu War battlefields (Rorke's Drift, Isandhlawana) nearby. We were given the warmest welcome by Foy Vermaak, Anne the manager and various family members and other guests. We were the only foreigners so it was a very South African experience - and exactly matched our idea of what staying... More
