This is a lovely, old hotel, full of atmosphere. It is quite dark and dingy in places and could definitely do with a lick of paint. Our room had no water initially because "a mouse has probably got into the pipes" ... yikes! The lights in the corridor were left on all night which, due to the window over the... More

We stayed a couple of nights in Dundee while exploring the battlefields nearby. We came across the Royal Country Inn and had a very pleasant stay in this building full of history. The furnishings and memorabilia was so interesting that if felt like we stepped back in time. Loved it. The food for breakfast and dinner was very good. You... More

We had intended to stay for 2 nights but we found the hotel to be dark and unsettling so we moved on. The hotel is in need of a lick of paint and brightening up, this can be done without losing any of the history of the place.

We stayed one night between afternoon and morning visits to the Talana museum, an outstanding attraction. We loved the historic ambience and spacious lay out of this old inn. We were put in a family room, so generously accommodated. The style is traditional and evokes the inn's function as a base for touring the local battlefields. The food was good,... More

Travelling with a group of 20, we stayed at this hotel for one night. Would have been happy to stay much longer. Motz was a wonderful host, so charming and nothing too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable. It is a wonderful old hotel with so many interesting things to look at. Our evening meal was superb and breakfast... More

Yes, its a hotel wonderfully stuck in a time warp. And that being the case, it was an exceedingly interesting place to stay... full of curious relics from the past, some of which should definitely not been kept! For me, it was not comfortable at all. So the artifacts and the delightful staff, with possible exception of the receptionist who... More

This hotel is made of what can only be called "Old-world charm". It is excellent, and also surprisingly affordable. Good service: we had booked into the backpackers room, but were upgraded to a standard room for free, because they were not very full!

Excellent and welcoming staff, who gave us great personal service; really delightful people to whom nothing was too much trouble. We were out most of the day at the battlefields for which it makes a great centre because the hotel is full of memorabilia of that period. Rooms very comfy, and have been modernised with nice bathrooms en suite; its... More
