Stayed two nights in moonlight cottage. Traveling for a month around the country and what a great break from small hotel rooms. Nice sitting area, kitchenette, outdoor patio, bedroom and ensuite shower. Gas fireplace kept us warm and cozy. Free wireless. We ordered breakfast hamper, about 13 dollars per person. Was perfect to get us going in am, but you... More

The was the best of 6 places we stayed while in central otago region. We had a warm cozy cottage with beautiful gardens after a long day of riding. We were disappointed we decided to eat out as we would have preferred to stay there and cook out. Everything was clean and tidy and new. The host were accommodating to... More

Rose and Phil are special people who have created a garden paradise. Their garden goes on and on and they are happy to take you on a personal tour. There's much to do in the area and the Rail Trail is a fun ride for bicyclists. This B&B lived up to the positive reviews. We would happily stay again on... More

Our very favorite home away from home in the entire world. The gorgeous gardens, beautiful cottages, warm greeting, perfect location - Burn Cottages is a must for anyone traveling in this part of the world. Were it not for the lure of the many wineries in the area, we would never have wanted to leave the property. We stayed two... More

We stayed for 2 nights and found Rose & Phil to be the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful without being obtrusive at all. The cottages really are the perfect location to chill out and relax, whilst fitting in some vineyard tastings. We took the opportunity to soak up some sun in the privacy of our gardens, getting an odd visit... More

We stayed for 3 nights in January 2014 and we highly recommend this cottage. We stayed in the "Rascal" cottage, which was beautifully designed, with an incredibly comfortable bed, all the amenities you could want in the kitchen, lovely swathes of lavender just outside the door and even your own BBQ. I think what sets Burn Cottage apart though, is... More

Thank you J878 for your lovely comments. It was so nice meeting you both and watching you enjoy the cottage and the Burn Cottage Retreat environment. This week we have Scottish guests staying who have had a wonderful time sunbathing on the lawn right beside the lavender, then having a BBQ dinner, complete with fresh vegies from the guest garden,... You really have to experience one of the cottages, the beautiful woodland - as well as manicured gardens, and the generous but unobtrusive hospitality that is Burn Cottage Retreat! Situated on a country road, it is nevertheless 10 minutes from nearly 25 wonderful Cromwell and Bannockburn wineries = this is the ideal place to stay to explore the wineries, taste... More

Thank you EJBSHJ for taking the time to review our cottages. We are so pleased we were able to cater to your needs after all the hard work you put in tasting wines in the region! Brilliant cottages full of ambience inside and out in the natural garden surroundings. Peaceful and beautiful amenities add to the overall experience. Not least are the wonderful hosts who are committed to your relaxation. We will be back and recommend this retreat to anyone seeking a change from the run of mill accommodation normally on offer.

Rose and Phil are great hosts and have done a wonderful job by creating this place. The cottages are of high standard and very comfortable. The hosta garden is just marvelous. It's so peaceful to sit outside in front of the cottage and listen to the many birds in the evening. Once we played petanque at the newly created playing... More

When things can't seem to get any worse, think of that old Hungarian saying "Under a frog's backside at the bottom of a coalmine." Antidote - (1) take at least 3 days at Burn Cottage Retreat; (2) savour every moment of the wow factor accommodation, setting, standards and service; (3) read the reviews and believe every superlative; (4) thank the...
