Stopped in with a friend on a tuesday with a friend, limited availability, loads of bus-tourists, we were seated with jolly Americans all around. Amuse bouche of cured/dried meat, cooked like a ragu, on bread, tasty, good surprise. Starter was a local take on the Italian dish "vitello tonnato", veal, very tender, with a creamy sardine-sauce. Quite excellent. My friend... More

The only problem we had with Hotel Union was that it was a long walk up a steep hill with four pieces of luggage in heavy rain. When we finally reached the hotel it was all worth it. The walk up the hill makes for a stunning setting. Certainly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We... More

Our room was in need of a refurb. Worst room so far on our tour. Found half eaten peanuts down the side of the chair in the room. Room looks it comes out of the 60s. No air conditioning. Had to look for our case as it was delivered to the wrong room, found it 20 rooms away from ours.... More

The hotel is situated above the town which ensures great views of the fjord, the trade off being its a 10/15 minute walk to get to the shops/bars/restaurants in town - either down steps (around 300 of them) alongside a waterfall or via the twisty main road. Not too bad going down but a bit of a slog coming back... More

Best hotel we've been to so far in the region (4th night). Large room, nice views of the fjord, heated pool and decent set of toiletries in the bathroom. The breakfast buffet is the weak spot but the overall package is well above the (disappointing) regional standard

This review is for the spa, as I did not stay at the hotel overnight. Based on the eight tour buses out front and the millions of tour groups crowding the lobby, I would not stay at this hotel. However, the spa is the best I've experienced. I spent 8 magical hours there. My massage included spa admission of course,... More

I'd tried to get rooms here but they were all booked up. Our kayak guide recommended the spa here so to relax our sore muscles, we came just for that. Mari, the girl who checked us in, was so sweet and explained everything. On such a short notice, all of their extensive services (massages, etc) were booked. Ekatarina was also... More

We stayed two nights in this beautifully located hotel during our recent tour in Scandinavia. The Gieranger fjord is absolutely one the major sights to see in Norway. This hotel is perched above the fjord with some rooms overlooking the water. Our room faced the high mountains with a beautiful waterfall in the backdrop. The hotel is very good –... More

Location is excellent with a dramatic snow-melt waterfall right outside the hotel. The food (and view over the fjord) in a la carte Restaurant Julie is first-class, as is the service provided by the that restaurant's manager. The basement museum of classic American cars is a very interesting and attractive diversion. But that is all destroyed by the peremptory and... More

As others have written, the union hotel is in a prime location with a wonderful over the fjord. We were here for two nights and slept well. The buffet dinner is apparently famous and while the food choices and amount was enormous, the crowds and pushing and shoving was truly awful. Wrecked the whole experience really. It also had a...
