The Ecolodge is very beautiful, and getting there by water taxi was a fun start to our stay there this summer (2014). Unfortunately my husband became very ill the first night and had to go to the hospital (just a long block away!) . We were so lucky! Everyone was helpful at the lodge and at the hospital, and their... More

Dear Kathy and Russ, I'm so glad that the trip was still enjoyable after a scary start for you and Russ. Sick and on vacation is not anything anyone ever expects to have happen. Thank you for letting us help in our own way. Thank you for allowing my staff to shine! I am very proud of each and every... More

We arrived like many others, by water taxi. That in itself is an experience. I was a bit concerned when we arrived from the outside of the building as the grounds are not like a usual hotel, once you step inside concerns fade away. The lodge is clean and breathtaking! We stayed on the ground floor with river view -... More

Dear Ian Thank you for bringing up the landscaping around the Lodge, almost every plant on the property has a healing or food use for humans, animal or insects and helps to increase bio diversity. The plants are left to grow and spread naturally as they would without human interference and without the use of pesticides or gas powered mowers... More

Had an amazing time, what an experience going to James Bay, our guide George Small was a wealth of knowledge. The lodge itself was incredible, all natural, very clean. We had a nice view. The staff were great, helpful and went out of their way to make arrangements for us to see the cultural centre. Very peaceful. Food was great,... More

Dear Barb and Ed, What a pleasure it was to have you visit. I really enjoyed our conversations discussing Moose Factory, Hamilton and respective histories. Hamilton is one of my favorite places the people are warm friendly and both of you are certainly great ambassadors of your fine city. Thank you for coming! Greg More

The Ecolodge is great - fabulous architecture, natural setting, well prepared meals, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, and a lovely library for quiet reading - but it's not about the place, it's about the experience - seeking an understanding and respecting the Cree culture, meeting the good and gentle local people, boating to the vastness of James Bay and... Scott, Thank you for pointing out the Code of Ethics on our website. You nailed it, the experience is what happens outside the walls of this Lodge. We just want to give you a beautiful, restful, healthy experience and feed you good food while you relax into "slow travel". Thank you for your kind and accurate words Scott Greg More

My family recently spent four days at the Cree Village Ecolodge. This is our third time to this amazing destination. On our trips to the lodge the staff is always there for everything you request. The lodge is breath taking. The menu had many choices and everything was wonderful. We really ate to well. There is a lot of cultural... More

You take a relaxing train ride and then a short boat ride in a Freighter Canoe to the docks at the Cree Eco- Lodge. The inside of the lodge is breath taking. We were greeted by the pleasant and attentive staff. The meals were prepared to perfection with a wide variety of selections. There is lots of excursions and outdoor... More

Some reviewers have complained that the Polar Bear Express train from Cochrane to Moosonee has pretty repetitive scenery, and there's not much to see in Moosonee, and so they return on the same day to Cochrane (about 5 to 51/2 hours each way). They have not considered taking the water taxi ($15/trip) to Moose Factory island, staying at least one... More

Roger, I must thank you for holding our dinner table spell bound with your in depth and accurate Indigenous and Canadian historical knowledge. I spent one night and two days on Moose Factory Island. My family stayed in the Cree owned/operated Ecolodge and were very impressed. The building is absolutely beautiful and has won prestigious architectural awards for its use of wood. There's wood everywhere: desks, intricately made chair, beautiful supporting beams. The staff are very laid back, and while some may expect... More
