We should have known better as this was the second Hearthstone Inn we had decided to stay at while on our driving tour of Cape Breton Island. We had checked out two other motels before coming to this one and both of those were rejected right off. Both of those had one car at each and in pretty bad visual... More

The hotel itself was a little expensive and old looking from the outside, but the room itself was clean and comfortable and you can tell upgrades are being made. The front desk staff were very friendly. There is a restaurant onsite and I'm sure the food is great..if the waitress would let you get a bite in! We were served... More

The motel had spacious rooms which were nicely furnished and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. From the back there is a nice view and a large grassy area. Free coffee and tea. Wifi was off and on. There is an attached restaurant which had good food, large servings, good prices, great service. Guests of the motel get... More

It was ok to crash for the night. Old and tired place. I suspect electrical problems too. Some outlets did not function. But, clean and quiet. The dinner and breakfast facility was good. The staff were very nice and attentive. Would stay there again.

Travelling from Ont - Newfoundland with two dogs, sometimes you just need to take what is provided, however.... For 150 bucks this place is ridiculously expensive and run down. I'm not one to complain, I always say if the beds and the bathrooms are clean, I'm good with that The sheets were clean, the bathrooms were clean, but the tub... More

When you've just off the plane at Halifax and heading for Cape Breton, you start to realise how far it is. That's where places like the Hearthstone really help, sleep and food in the one place. Just on the island with scenic (ahem) views across the Canso Causeway to the quarry it really is a place to stay en route... More

The room had a lot of dust. The toilet kept running until I fixed the mechanism We discovered hundreds of ants all over the furniture when we woke up on the morning. Probably because the door had gaps between the frame. On the plus side, the chicken wings in the restaurant were excellent. The view of the water from the... More

Outside looks less than desirable but the rooms are newly renovated. Lighting was a little poor and heat was cranked. Beds are brand new and super comfy!! Pillows are small but doable. Bathroom was spotless! Food was great at the restaurant. Would definitely stay again! Staff were super friendly and down to earth

If you want to drive the horrid highway and get to Cape Breton and you are exhausted from it this inn just over the causeway is economical and was well maintained and very clean. Have stayed in other places similar with dank mouldy smells but appears the rooms have been revamped here so none of that. Lovely bathroom. Coffee maker... More

When to eat with an NSCC discount which was only 10% and was planning on eating there much more, but they gave 10% on only one meal and not even the drink (pop) that went with the meal. Will never go back...food was nothing special either
