I liked this hostel. As the first into my dorm I found the most comfortable mattress. Another girl said hers was very uncomfortable. It was quiet and the shower was amazing. Bathrooms obviously renovated but why they did do toilet separately, I'm not sure... At least the large bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped and the common relaxing area had... More

I stayed here for one night. Very clean and good facilities. I was in a 8 bunk dorm, which might have been a problem if one had snored/been otherwise noisy, but there was only one other, very quiet, person in the room. Staff are very helpful. I like the fact that they make a big thing about being eco-friendly. Free... More

Reasonable price, good food, warm fire, friendly staff. A short walking distance from train and ferry. On a warm day outside eating....did I say warm? Cold enough to freeze your toes off in town most of the time. Fish and chips were excellent.

I stayed here with my friend and we were very very happy and comfortable. We have backpacked through north of Europe and this is one of cleanest and friendliest hostels we have stayed within. Everything is there: comfy lounge, good lockers, good kitchen. We also ate in the cafe underneath the hostel and out in the beutiful garden bit. I... More

My friends and I booked into this backpackers, mainly as a base for walking the surrounding mountains - beautiful landscape all around. Sheena and her family made us feel very welcome, they provided lots of helpful information, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The backpackers is right in the middle of the village, so an excellent location. Luckily they also... More

Our stay at Mallaig Backpackers could not have been better. Time and time again, the owner went out of his way to make us feel at home - from rescuing our Prawn and Mango Curry, feeding us Millionaire Short Bread at 3am in the morning, to empathizing with our awful hangovers...(not to mention the free ice cream!) The hostel itself... More

I arrived into Mallaig on the late night train, and I headed for the hostel. At first, I couldn't find the entrance, but I looked again, and eventually found the cafe entrance and rung the bell. The owner was quick at coming downstairs, and he was very friendly and welcoming. He'd even stayed up until 11:40pm in order to let... More

This hostel is clean and comfortable with a great kitchen and lounge area. The wet rooms were clean and the showers fantastic. It's right in the centre of Mallaig and near the restaurants, pubs, shops, the port and train station. It is awkward to work out where the entrance is but it's really not an issue. Staff were friendly but... More

This hostel is terrible. In my month of backpacking around Europe and the UK, this place took the cake for the worst place I've stayed. The rooms are dirty and smell as though there is a horrible fungus growing in them. The bathrooms double as showers, which would be fine except that the floor drains don't always work, leading to... Sheena H, Owner at Mallaig Backpackers Lodge, responded to this review

Dear Sir, This is obviously a malicious review. Owners, management and staff are always available to deal with any problems. Any sane person wouldn't have stayed with this supposed multitude of problems. Our rooms are spotlessly clean as commented often in our visitors book. The bathrooms are wet rooms and don't double as anything, also highly praised in our visitors... More

I booked a bed in the hostel over the phone using my visa card (was charged £1 fee for this). They didn't take my contact details so I had to assume that everything would be ok. I arrived at 11.30pm off the train. Luckily I knew where I was going. But even so I arrived at the cafe looking for... More
