Stayed in Mallaig because we couldn't find any accommodation anywhere else and ended up at the Steam Inn more out of desperation. But the best rooms we experienced in 12 days, everything new, contemporary, spotlessly clean, and very good value. No breakfast as such but some cereals tea and coffee and fresh pastries a short walk away at the local... More

We ate here during a trip on the jacobite steam train. We had Sea bass and red mullet, Monkfish curry and a trio of fish. Mussells langostines and salmon mousse. My wife has a dairy allergy and i checked very clearly whether the seabass dish contained any dairy products including butter or yoghurt. The food arrived quickly and was very... More

Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear that you all enjoyed your meal with us at the Steam Inn. I am sorry that your wife became ill later in the day but I can assure you that there is no dairy used in our seabass dish. And I must add, the kitchen will always go out of... More

Just returned from an overnight at the Steam Inn. Accommodation stated room only and we were pleasantly surprised to find tea and coffee making facilities along with two boxes of cereal and a pint of milk stored in a mini fridge. We found the level of cleanliness to be superb and room size adequate. The food served in the restaurant... More

The good news...the rooms are large; the beds comfortable; the bathrooms clean and relatively new; the daily service thorough; the tea & coffee facilities are well-stocked; the food in the restaurant is good; our waitress was excellent. The bad news...breakfast is a small packet of cereal in your room; the place is very noisy both inside and out.The rooms are... More

I am glad that you enjoyed your food and service in the restaurant and were comfortable in your rooms. I am sorry that your sleep quality was poor however, we do warn when booking and on arrival that rooms are above a busy pub and can be noisy, especially at the weekends when the pub is open until 1am. This... More

Located just above the restaurant, within a walking distance to the ferry terminal. Nicely furbished and super clean rooms are very comfortable, with its own LCD TV and ample space. The only drawback is that restaurant closes at 9 PM, as do all the other kitchens in the town. Otherwise, an excellent B&B!

We spent the night here before an early ferry. I was a bit dubious when I walked in to find myself in a noisy bar with pool tables, but the nice barman whisked me out the back and up the stairs to the bedrooms which were very clean and appeared to be newly decorated. The bathroom had the best shower... More

Very comfortable, rooms clean and perfectly adequate. Breakfast: "only a packet of cereal" was in fact more than expected as the details listed that there was no breakfast offered. Staff were friendly and helpful, bar is lively and did offer a real ale. I ate in the restaurant one night and it was excellent and not overpriced - as many... More

This hotel is showing on the CAMRA site, which is why we booked it!... but on check in we found that it has NO real ales and no sign of having any! We also found out that the breakfast was only a packet of cereal from a variety pack! Our window had to be taped up by their handyman to... More

We serve a large selection of bottled ales here as well as a local draught ale from the isle of Skye. I'm not sure how you missed them. We would not be advertised on the camra site otherwise! As for the comment of the multi pack of cereal - we do not serve breakfast here. We are room only, as... More

We had made the booking 6 weeks in advance and had phoned the week earlier to double check everything was ok. We had travelled on motorbikes from Ayrshire to Mallaig, and had been riding all day. When checking into the hotel we were told that our bill was going to be £50 more than we had been quoted on the... More

This B&B does not, paradoxically, do breakfast, but otherwise is a clean and comfortable billet - particularly if you want to grab an early morning ferry to Skye. The adjoining restaurant (separate review) is excellent, with fine seafood dishes and a wide choice of whiskys. Only downside: no dedicated parking (take your chances outside), the front double room is above... More
