We arrived at this beautiful home late in afternoon, and were welcomed by Geraldine and Euguene. Our room was at the top of the house, very spacious and with everything you would need for a pleasant stay. The amount of collectable art and information they have on Seamus Heeney is incredible. Breakfast was great, cereals, fresh fruit and a well... More

Laurel Villa is a true find for poetry lovers, lovers of art, good food and home baking. While the breakfasts and scones are wonderful Eugene's poetry tour of Heaney country is respectful, sensitive and totally comprehensive. Absolutely worth travelling North for those of us in the South who forget to venture up North. An insight into Seamus Heaneys times and... More

Thank you to Eugene and Geradine for introducing us to this poet in such a real and interesting way. We followed advice and visited the grave which was a very powerful experience for us. Your home is welcoming and cosy and the breakfasts are a wonderful way to start the day. Loved the scones too. Would love to return someday.

Laurel Villa is a haven of tranquility. Eugene and Geraldine offer a sincere welcome. The room was really comfortable and the whole house tastefully decorated. For Heaney lovers the tour is a must! Eugene is a mine of information who brings the poet and poetry alive for his listeners. And Geraldine 's breakfast.... Marvellous!! Helen, Naas

I would give this hotel a higher rating if I could. A very warm welcome from Geradine and Eugene to us and the rest of the guests attending our sons wedding. A very lovely comfortable hotel with great breakfast, and yes Geradines baking is to die for. Thank you for a wonderful stay and can't wait to return.

We received a very warm welcome from Gerardine and Eugene when we arrived at Laurel Villa . The room was very comfortable and showers lovely and hot . I can honestly say it was one of the nicest breakfasts I have ever had with everything clearly homemade . Gerardine,s baking is to die for and the presentation was fantastic .... More

I stayed here for a school reunion. Eugene and Gerardine are helpful, friendly and so entertaining. The guesthouse is quirky and fun with warm rooms, comfortable beds and hot showers! I loved the Louis McNiece room and if you are a Seamus Heaney fan you will adore the dining room and want to book one of Eugene's tours to learn... More

Although I am from Magherafelt itself I have never been to Laurel Villa but as someone else described, it really is a hidden gem! We took my mum for afternoon tea for her birthday, and we will most definitely be back. The house itself is so beautiful and quaint, so many lovely pieces of furniture and antiques. There is obviously... More

We booked Laurel Grove as a venue for a day long business meeting. The facilities were unique and quite simply exceptional. Who could fail to be inspired by the surroundings, by the poetry of Heaney on the walls and the collectibles that reflect such exquisite taste. Superb coffee and scones mid morning and the best sandwiches I have tasted at... More

Like many locals, I have driven past Laurel Villa on many occasions but was unaware of the culinary and interior delights that lay behind its ivy walls. We used Laurel Villa as the venue for my mum’s surprise 60th afternoon tea. Gerardine was extremely accommodating as a host, especially as we wanted the afternoon tea to be a surprise event....
