A number of Pelenna Male Voice choir members and wives stayed at the Laurel Villa for the weekend starting 23rd October 2015. We had a wonderful friendly reception. The food and accommodation were excellent. I must go back again for the home made scones!! The house and bedrooms were set in authentic Victorian décor with numerous pictures and originals of irish... More

I visited Northern Ireland with my two Sisters, our final night was spent at Laurel Villa. We knew it's connection with Irish Poets especially Seamus Heaney my favorite. When we arrived a very warm welcome was given to us by the owners Eugene and Geradine, we were shown to our rooms, all named after Irish Poets. I was in the... More

We stayed here for four nights, using the house as a base for some family research and also for sightseeing. Eugene and Geraldine made us so welcomed, it was hard to believe that we were not long time friends of theirs, rather than paying guests. Eugene's knowledge of local history proved invaluable as did Geraldine's contacts. We stayed in the... More

The top spot on our 3 week tour of UK and Ireland. Beautiful, historic house full of cultural mementos and a veritable shrine to Irish poet Seamus Heaney. Eugene went out of his way to do some basic research for us on family records from the area and point us in the direction of relevant cemeteries. The breakfast setting and... More

Stayed here for one night, and what a friendly welcome we received. Whether you love poetry or not, this is a wonderful B&B to stay in! Our room was comfortable, and the breakfast excellent, especially the scones!! No hesitation in recommending this B&B.

A very special guesthouse full of character and rich in the poetic memorabilia of Seamus Heaney. Geraldine and Eugene were wonderful hosts, and a great help to my family history research. Our attic room was delightful and the breakfasts sumptuous. Good parking and right in the centre of town with excellent restaurants nearby. Geraldine's gluten free scones were particularly appreciated.

My one-night stay at Laurel Villa was a unique, special experience. Combined with the thorough and sensitive Tour of Heaney Country conducted by Eugene, it was the highlight of my trip in Northern Ireland. As an MA student working on Seamus Heaney, I found the tour and the abundant information given by Eugene very helpful for my research. Gerardine and... More

We arrived at this beautiful home late in afternoon, and were welcomed by Geraldine and Euguene. Our room was at the top of the house, very spacious and with everything you would need for a pleasant stay. The amount of collectable art and information they have on Seamus Heeney is incredible. Breakfast was great, cereals, fresh fruit and a well... More

Laurel Villa is a true find for poetry lovers, lovers of art, good food and home baking. While the breakfasts and scones are wonderful Eugene's poetry tour of Heaney country is respectful, sensitive and totally comprehensive. Absolutely worth travelling North for those of us in the South who forget to venture up North. An insight into Seamus Heaneys times and... More
