We had a pre-Christmas, mid-week, stay and can highly recommend the Acorn Inn. We did not know the village, or the area, before (which are both quiet and lovely). All the staff could not have been friendlier, were interested in ensuring that our stay was enjoyable, and to recommend places to visit - if you forget your wellies, or need... More

This was our third short break at The Acorn Inn. As usual the staff were friendly and helpful and the food and the service were excellent. There's plenty to see and do in the area without having to travel too far and there are also several walks ... though this year we only went through the local deer park as... More

We stayed here last week for a short pre-Christmas break. The staff were superb: very enthusiastic, helpful and friendly. We had a standard room which was extremely small (I have only seen smaller ones in hotels in Venice) but did have everything that we could wish for. Squeezing rooms into an ancient building is not easy but they have done... More

We chose the Acorn Inn because we could take our dog. It turned out to be a great choice. The main bar is warm and welcoming with a fabulous log burner and in the evening we could eat either in the restaurant without the dog, or in the cosy bar area just outside the restaurant with the dog. The food... More

We booked ahead for lunch and were given a corner table for 4 as requested even though we were only a party of 3. It was quiet at 12.30 with just 2 other diners at a nearby table. We didn't mind because the warm welcome and cosy atmosphere made us feel relaxed straight away. My family chose roasted cod loin... More

Just back from a lovely pub lunch. Booked a table in the bar with our 2 dogs, lovely log stove blazing, very friendly staff, cosy and warm! I had the special blackened salmon with sweet potato fries, my sister had Chicken leg with garlic, lemon and thyme, my husband had fish and chips. Fish had a few bones in it,... More

Popped in for lunch on the way back from Dorset. A lovely characterful pub with a really warm welcome. Hope to return for an overnight stay soon. Would be nice to snuggle next to the fire and have one too many beers. And then followed by a few whiskys from their selection of over 100 single malts. The Good Pub... More

Just back from a three night break at The Acorn Inn. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the hotel was cosy with relaxed country charm. Our room Evershead was very small (but we knew this when we booked so not a problem) but very nicely decorated. Loved the Ren toiletries, the selection of clipper teas, the homemade cookies left daily and both... More

It has taken me a couple of months to write this, I could rant so much more about the poor experience but thought I would warn people incase you may have diets that need attention - do not stay here. When booking this hotel for 4 nights my wife spent some time explaining that due to health reasons she could... More

You remember Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'urbervills?"..... well, this 16th-century coaching inn was immortalised as the Sow & Acorn in the novel. Here it stands, larger than life, at the heart of village Evershot, an inspiring area for walking, fishing and riding. Out of my trio of passions, the good wife agrees to the walking bit, quite content to... More
