Had a very pleasant stay with a good friend last night. Although it was very busy due to a large birthday celebration, the staff were attentive and friendly and we were served in no time. Food was delicious. I found this character building to have a lovely atmosphere. Bed was comfy and our room was clean and welcoming. Also managed... More

My wife has long since wanted to visit the Hell-Fire Caves and Mausoleum at West Wycombe so this was a birthday weekend treat. The place to stay in WW is the George and Dragon so I booked in for two nights in a four poster room. On our arrival we had to wait 30 minutes or so but we were... More

The George & Dragon has been my local pub for the last 10 years, & although I have seen it go through changes before - some good & some not so good !!! I really hoped that when the New Owners took over, & their positive attitude - I thought ..... yippee ..... sad to say, it is far from... More

The hotel has been taken over since and seemed much better than it was last time I stayed. I was in room 101 which was nice and had a double four poster bed. However it is above the kitchen and the extractor fan was was loud. it went off at 9:50, but unfortunately the smell of grease hung in the... More

Popped in on a Tuesday lunchtime: place was packed but they couldn't really cope, waited an hour for a ploughmans and mushroom shepherd's pie. Ploughmans was fine; 'wild' mushroom shepherd's pie was an inedible cream mess, not sure I have ever seen shiitake mushrooms native to the Chilterns! Nice beer though

We enjoyed our evening meal in the bar and found everyone very friendly and helpful. The bar has a good atmosphere and the staff efficient. Breakfast was very hearty although slow service if you had to meet a deadline. The building must be a nightmare to keep up to date and shows signs of wear and tear. An endless pot... More

I have had the pleasure of dining at the George and Dragon a dozen times. I've also stayed there. I'm really fond of the place. I love the main courses- good quality meat, game and fish well done with nice garnishes and good vegetables. Friendly service. Breakfast was very good too when I stayed in December- local sausages, thick bacon,... More

Was very full nearly didnt go in but my friend encouraged me. Pub was almost full but a real gentleman (customer) told her there was a spare table in the corner. I had twice cooked belly pork and veg, delicious , i asked for applesauce and certainly wasnt disappointed. Lovely log fire and atmospheric pub, always enjoy my evening in... More

I love this hotel, it's the third time I have stayed. Every room is different, staff are friendly and the breakfast is one of the best I've had. Down side is TV the size of a postage stamp in some rooms and the shower is somewhat slow but it just doesn't matter, the charm of this hotel and it's fantastic... More

This is a well priced hotel but I arrived too late for dinner and just had a drink at the bar which was fairly busy - and as my room was directly overhead it would have made it tricky for me to get to sleep....

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
'As of the 18th July 2012, the George and Dragon Hotel, West Wycombe is under new management. In the very near future we will be sympathetically refurbishing all of the rooms in the Hotel ensuring that none of the unique original character is lost. We have already made a lot of positive improvements since the take over including a full thorough deep clean of all the rooms. Shortly we will be developing the downstairs to include a 40+ cover Restaurant whilst keeping the rustic charm of the original bar. As the rooms develop we will post new photos to keep you informed. We hope to see you soon.'Through a cobbled archway on West Wycombe High Street, you come to the entrance of a coaching inn built in the early 18th Century. When you walk in, it feels quite natural that people have been doing this for almost three centuries. Generations of traders, travellers, lovers and visitors have left traces of their presence on the building and its atmosphere, not least of whom is Sukie, the beautiful social climber whose ghost is said to haunt the building. The attentive service you receive from our staff, however, leaves you in no doubt that you are in the present now. Whether you hope for quick service for a business lunch or a more relaxed pace for dinner with friends, you will not be disappointed. On a fine day, you can sit in our large garden. At the George and Dragon, and will find your bedroom both comfortable and interesting. Two of the rooms have four-poster beds and all of them have the uneven floorboards and quirky angles that come with age. One room straddles the archway into the inn's courtyard and another gives a view over the old roofs and chimneys of West Wycombe. Recent concessions to modern living include en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities and Freeview TV.We have three full-time chefs who create an intriguing menu which is English at heart including local game, English cheeses, traditional favourites and lamb from the local estate. Some menu items and daily specials will represent the chefs' selection from the rest of the world and may include dishes from the Mediterranean and the Far East. As you would expect from an establishment where good dining is such a high priority, we also have a choice of well kept real ales, and an ever-developing wine list. ... more   less
