I stayed here on the 11th of August and found the staff to be very welcoming, the room clean and comfortable and the decor quite charming. There are a few little things they could do to improve but for the low price of £75 for a large room with a four poster bed and a good sized on suite it... More

Dissappointed. Room was shabby, cracked and grubby sanitory ware, in need of a thourough re decorating. No bedside courtesy lights. Odd 'shed like' shower and toilet enclosure, noisey overlooking the main road. Poor cleanliness. Would not recommend and would not stay again. The female staff were very pleasant and helpful and seemed embarrassed by our comments.

Live locally in the village and have been going to this hotel/pub for years. Never had a bad thing to say about it until today. Arrived for a birthday lunch for my daughter who was 10 today complete with family . Pub was half empty, around 4 tables occupied so we had a table in the restaurant for 7. Ordered... More

Booked for 1 night: arrived whilst a pneumatic drill was being used on the kitchen floor. Prior arrangments had been made to book in at 1pm to allow time to change clothes and attend a funeral at 2pm. They weren't quite ready for us, soiled bed linen all over the stairs and landing and the 'cleaning' lady informed us that... More

It was raining. We knew it would clear after about 20 minutes or so before our 8 mile circular walk in the lovely countryside around West Wycombe. A coffee at the G&D would be the perfect solution. And it proved to be the case. Served quickly by the engaging Charli, we vowed to return for lunch three hours later. The... More

We had a one night stay here. Thank god only one night as the room was filthy with thick dust more than a week or two old. Some places I'd say months Now we all know what dust is.. Human skin ect. So i really don't think it's too much to ask to have a clean fresh room!. And I'm... More

As an early birthday present my boyfriend booked the George and Dragon. We had a room at the front of the hotel which was gorgeous, it was very ornate and had a 4 poster bed. Absolutely gorgeous! very clean and although you could hear the traffic it didn't bother us as you could open the windows wide and sit on... More

I went in this pub on recommendation of friends - what a mistake! We ordered 2 sandwiches & 2 beers at 1.30 at 2.15 there was still no signs of our food despite politely asking when we would be served. At 2.30 ( & after asking again) we were served. In the corner we could also hear another table asking... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
'As of the 18th July 2012, the George and Dragon Hotel, West Wycombe is under new management. In the very near future we will be sympathetically refurbishing all of the rooms in the Hotel ensuring that none of the unique original character is lost. We have already made a lot of positive improvements since the take over including a full thorough deep clean of all the rooms. Shortly we will be developing the downstairs to include a 40+ cover Restaurant whilst keeping the rustic charm of the original bar. As the rooms develop we will post new photos to keep you informed. We hope to see you soon.'Through a cobbled archway on West Wycombe High Street, you come to the entrance of a coaching inn built in the early 18th Century. When you walk in, it feels quite natural that people have been doing this for almost three centuries. Generations of traders, travellers, lovers and visitors have left traces of their presence on the building and its atmosphere, not least of whom is Sukie, the beautiful social climber whose ghost is said to haunt the building. The attentive service you receive from our staff, however, leaves you in no doubt that you are in the present now. Whether you hope for quick service for a business lunch or a more relaxed pace for dinner with friends, you will not be disappointed. On a fine day, you can sit in our large garden. At the George and Dragon, and will find your bedroom both comfortable and interesting. Two of the rooms have four-poster beds and all of them have the uneven floorboards and quirky angles that come with age. One room straddles the archway into the inn's courtyard and another gives a view over the old roofs and chimneys of West Wycombe. Recent concessions to modern living include en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities and Freeview TV.We have three full-time chefs who create an intriguing menu which is English at heart including local game, English cheeses, traditional favourites and lamb from the local estate. Some menu items and daily specials will represent the chefs' selection from the rest of the world and may include dishes from the Mediterranean and the Far East. As you would expect from an establishment where good dining is such a high priority, we also have a choice of well kept real ales, and an ever-developing wine list. ... more   less
