I'm not quite sure whether to give this a 5 star rating for the location or a 1 star for the room, so will compromise at a 3 rating. The hotel is about 200m from a small bustling town centre, if you get a front facing room then you will think you have died and gone to heaven, the view... more

We stayed one night in the Splendid Palace and enjoyed its architecture and imperial style. As the hotel is rather old, it is not recommendable if cold outside as windows do not close completely. The room was very large but not very modern. We really enjoyed the lounge, the high ceilings and the patio. You will feel set back into... more

I have stayed at Splendid Palace several times. In season it is a rare find. Ask for a room with sea wiew (magnificent). It is like staying in an time slip. The hotel is basicly unchanged for generations. It is reasonably clean, kept with respect for its tradition. It is a historic wooden building full of antique furniture. You can... more

Don't be fooled by the hype over these islands and this hotel - out of season (we were there in October 2006) it was bleak and grim.
