Location is beautiful, and our room was charming (as a characteristic room). The room is under-equipped for a four star hotel, but you're there for the spectacular view and atmospheric town/room. Come 8 a.m., jackhammers opened up directly above our room, and everything started moving inside the room. This was the first night/morning of our honeymoon. We asked at the... more

We stayed 30th September and 1st October 2007. 30th Sept being our 1st wedding anniversary and wanted this evening to be special, we booked directly through the Hotel and checked whether the Grotto Restaurant would still be open, we were advised it would be providing weather permitted, we booked a table & my husband mentioned that it was our anniversary,... more

This is an amazing small town with the most wonderfully friendly locals!! The hotel has an increadibly unique restaurant that is actually located in a sea cave...with water crashing in all around you!! We stayed in a characteristic room recommended by Fodors...well worth the extra money!! From these rooms you have an unobstructed view of the sea where you can... more

This is a lovely boutique hotel above a grotto. The view of the Med sea is spectacular and I highly recommend the restaurant just down from the hotel reception. The food is above average but not outstanding but the view sitting in the cave with waves slapping the rocks beneath you is unforgettable. The hotel itself is not 5-star and... more

This hotel is said to rank in the top three of the world for 'location, location, location'. I knew about the Grotta, but did not tell my partner, hoping that it would be a surprise for her. Neither of use were surprised. We were both stunned! A never-before experience! Book a room Characteristica and dare to look over the balcony. The meal was... more

I agree with the July '05 review from the traveller from Tunbridge Wells, and recommend 'Grotto Palazzese' despite it being one of the more expensive hotels in Puglia. If you do stay, get a room with a sea view, and don't miss the restaurant. This is not too dear if you stay on the half-board, room & dinner basis, but... more

Stayed at the Hotel Grotta Palezzese for a few days last week. Polignano a Mare is a small seaside town between Bari and Ostuni. It's about 30 minutes from either by train. The station's not far from the centre, about a ten minute easy walk. Polignano is a really pretty town, and has a little stony beach slap bang in... more
