From the pictures I saw online, I thought the châteaux was set in the vineyard but actually it was in a small town (Saubusse) with village houses on either side. In front of the chateaux, at about 75 meters, was a small park which bordered the River Adour. All the rooms had a view of the river and of a few campers camping and fishing in front of the river. Marie, at reception, spoke English well and was helpful. Saubusse is a small town with only a couple of stores, a combination market/bakery/convenience store and is fairly remote. If you want to go to the beach, like we did everyday, it took about 30 min. to get to either Capbretton or Hossegor. Dax is at 30 min. and Biaritz about 40 min. The dinner offered at the hotel was available in 3 set “menus”; 36 €, 50 € and 80 €(drinks not included). We tried the one for 36 Euros which we thought was good but you can do better if you’re willing to hunt around the surrounding towns. The rooms were clean and OK shape for the price. I... more
