La Cusigna is in an incredible location. I stayed in an upgraded room which was really cool in its use of stone. You can see little coatis climbing right outside the rooms, and the food was great and featured a great view too. This is really a special location. We took the easy hike down into Parque Nacional Marino Ballena... more

How often does a resort hotel exceed one's expectations? Seldom, especially when those expectations were raised by a good friend's descriptions. La Cusinga Eco Lodge and its caring staff are exactly what an ecolodge should be: beautiful, good for the environment, and good for the traveler's soul. Chef David's superb cuisine was an unexpected treat and very pleasant surprise. After... more

My wife and I stayed there in mid February and we basically had the place to ourselves. We ate suppers at the lodge and did other stuff. We were pretty much catered to for our suppers since we were the only ones eating. Arco beach was ours for three days as was the natural swimming hole. Barely saw another guest..... more

Loved it so much in July04 that I returned for another five-day stay this month. Stunning Pacific panorama; gourmet food from Chef Dave; you'll feel like family in the first 5 minutes; outstanding variety of nature trails & wildlife; bring lots of memory cards/portable HD; rooms very comfortable; truly "green" mentality. Grounds around lodge nicely groomed but loaded with wildlife... more

I highly recommend La Cusinga eco-lodge for tourists who enjoy beautiful settings, nature, and hidden gems a bit off the beaten bath. The service was excellent, from the booking process to the cleanliness of the rooms to the elegant meals on the open-air deck overlooking coastal rainforest and the Ballena Marine National Park. The lodge cares about sustainability - it... more

Apr 20, 2009 | Trip type: Family

Our family recently spent one night at La Cusinga, booked there by Costa Rica Expeditions. Its location is good for touring Hacienda Baru, where our family enjoyed a "tree climb". La Cusinga is rather unassuming upon arrival; even our guide had trouble finding the turn off the main road, and the driveway is dusty and rocky. However, once we were... more

La Cusinga remains one of my favorite "secrets" of southern Puntarenas and I absolutely love returning here, even if it's just for one night. The site is perfect: rugged yet luxurious, remote yet accessible, with rooms that feel like tree-houses, and meals that you stuff yourself just to be able to keep eating. (Try Chef Dave's Chocolate Cake!! The second... more

The food was really great, maybe the best we had during our whole stay in Costa Rica. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The view on the ocean from the restaurant is breathtaking. We could see many birds (Trogon, Curassow, Chachalaca, ...) and capuchin & howler monkeys during the walks through the rainforest down to the property's beach. The... more
