I stayed here for three nights while backpacking through Central America. While looking for a place to relax between Santa Catalina, Panama and San Jose, Costa Rica, a couple of friends recommended Uvita. Upon arriving at Tucan Hotel, I noticed that it had a very laid-back, communal vibe so I booked 3 nights. The dorm room was a little musty... More

This is a convenient litte hotel half way between San Jose and Puerto Jimenez, OSA. It is very affordable from hammocks for backpackers, to private rooms with A/C and bathrooms. The food is very good, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I especially love the owners, Tra and Betta, they are the best!! The hotel is conveniently located... More

Why do you have to go to Uvita? To stay in the Tucan Hotel, of couse! This place is perfect to hang out in the courtyard with a cozy atmosphere and hammocks to relax. They give you all the information you possiply need, even the directions to the deserted beaches (it takes about 30min to walk there), a waterfall and... More

Ive stayed at Hotel Tucan two times over 3 years. My first stay was excellent, and quite a bargain. I like the location near the jungle paths (for hiking), close to the grocery store, and I personally prefer the long walk to Playa Uvita through the scenic countryside. The owners are nice and very helpful, and the shared kitchen really... More

They have every thing, tons of hammocks, free coffee all day, free bikes, free wifi, awesome food. It was one of the most chill hostel I ever stayed at. And the staff Zoë are maybe the most beautiful & nicest Tica in whole Costa Rica! The owners also know everything about whole pacific coast and always smile and so helpful... More

Tucan is a wonderful location halfway between the beach (Whales Tail) and the waterfall. The owner is multilingual and very helpful. Great little restaurant right on premises. Entire place is clean and inviting. I experienced both a dorm and a private room during my stay and both were fine. Common area was great and facilitated interaction amongst the guests. Enjoyed... Stayed here for three weeks from early December and over Christmas. Loved the hostel and the staff working there. The owners were really helpful. Uvita itself is a place that is still under the radar.

Inspired by the many positive reviews, my girlfriend and I visited Tucan Hostel in November 2014. Our stay was not so good for 2.5 reasons: 1) The owner was gone on vacation for a few days and had left the cleaning lady in charge of reception etc. This led to a number of troublesome situations: We knew from the website... We stated here for 3 nights. The rooms very from shared dormitory style to private, and all rooms connect to a shared community area with a restaurant, kitchen, games, hammocks, and relaxing. The owner is wonderful and very helpful. She is also a bit of an artist and always adding to the eclectic decor. Tucan is 3 minutes walking from... More

This was a perfect place for our first night in Costa Rica. We stayed in the treehouse, which was perfect for our 10 year old! Also, there was a little kitten running around (Creeper), so she was entertained for hours :) This place had a great atmosphere and was very easy to meet other travellers.
