There is nothing I can find wrong with this place!! Stayed in the howler house dorm, comfy bunk beds and a great opened view of the place. If you like your privacy stay in one of the individual tree houses. Restaurant food was great, good kitchen for cooking and the best backpacker atmosphere. It feels like a whole little community... This is not a criticism, just disappointment with much of Costa Rica tourism industry, which seems to be geared for travelers who do not want any foreign culture in their foreign travels. Flutterby is a lovely place, but the only person who spoke Spanish was the cleaning lady. If you want local culture, check out Hostel Bamboo down the road.... More

We spent a few days here while visiting the marine national park and wished we could have stayed much longer. The location is a few minutes from the beautiful beach (you have to pay a small fee to enter). We stayed in one of the tree-houses and loved it! The toilets and showers are shared but kept nice and clean.... More

First off, Uvita is a tiny town that is spread out. You either stay within a few minutes of the beach or you are a taxi ride away. We wanted to stay at the beach. Flutterby is less than 10 minutes by foot on a decent dirt road. The whole Flutterby "concept" is great. Some reviews have made it sound... More

I just wrapped up an eight night stay at Flutterby and heartily recommend it. It was a great home away from home in a great location just moments from the gorgeous Uvita/Marino Ballena beach. And trust me, you HAVE to see this beach. I stayed in the Howler House dorms for most of my stay, both moved to a cabin... More

First off, I AM a hostel traveler and I loved my stay here! It's quite obvious that the owners are travelers because this place was designed with the traveler in mind: -The communal kitchen is huge and has plenty of space for multiple people to cook. -There's a communal area with couches and an open computer if you need to... We stayed there 1 night, we had a nice little house made of wood for 4 people, 2 simple bedroom downstairs and one nice double bed upstairs (great view in the morning and jungle noises). Clean, beautiful, fully equiped, nice environnement, good food, nice people, hippie style ! and close to the national park of uvita :)

This is one of the most beautiful hostels I have ever stayed at. Great, affordable and fresh food. Nice and friendly staff. Quiet at night due to strict silence starting at 10pm. Surfboards for rent for the nice surfspot 500m away...

Didn't actually stay here, only visited a friend who was staying here for drinks one night. He said that rates were reasonable and he had a great time there. The atmosphere was laid back, with people from all over the world interacting and getting to know each other in the bar area. They had a bumping happy hour (5-7pm) but... More

We didn't stay here but went for breakfast. Twice. It was pretty sensational. Large breakfast burrito and fruit, and pretty much the best smoothies I've had. Ever. Lovely vibe about the place - made me wish I knew how to surf. :) Olly
