I just wrapped up an eight night stay at Flutterby and heartily recommend it. It was a great home away from home in a great location just moments from the gorgeous Uvita/Marino Ballena beach. And trust me, you HAVE to see this beach. I stayed in the Howler House dorms for most of my stay, both moved to a cabin... More

First off, I AM a hostel traveler and I loved my stay here! It's quite obvious that the owners are travelers because this place was designed with the traveler in mind: -The communal kitchen is huge and has plenty of space for multiple people to cook. -There's a communal area with couches and an open computer if you need to... We stayed there 1 night, we had a nice little house made of wood for 4 people, 2 simple bedroom downstairs and one nice double bed upstairs (great view in the morning and jungle noises). Clean, beautiful, fully equiped, nice environnement, good food, nice people, hippie style ! and close to the national park of uvita :)

This is one of the most beautiful hostels I have ever stayed at. Great, affordable and fresh food. Nice and friendly staff. Quiet at night due to strict silence starting at 10pm. Surfboards for rent for the nice surfspot 500m away...

Didn't actually stay here, only visited a friend who was staying here for drinks one night. He said that rates were reasonable and he had a great time there. The atmosphere was laid back, with people from all over the world interacting and getting to know each other in the bar area. They had a bumping happy hour (5-7pm) but... More

We didn't stay here but went for breakfast. Twice. It was pretty sensational. Large breakfast burrito and fruit, and pretty much the best smoothies I've had. Ever. Lovely vibe about the place - made me wish I knew how to surf. :) Olly

I have to start with the communal kitchen, because it serves as the social center of the hostel. Six large gas burners, cast iron pans, big compost buckets, plenty of fridge space and all dishes in plain view -- it has just the right basics for cooking a fine backpacker's meal. The layout provided enough elbow room to complete the... More

I stayed at Flutterby with two friends. We were all very impressed. It is clean, more than welcoming, helpful, etc. when we walked in they asked if we needed a drink (smoothie, cocktail, beer) and gave us a tour, explained everything, then checked us in. We ate several meals there ... Not super expensive, and fantastic flavors! It was not... More

The place looks great, at first.. All dorms and private rooms are houses on the trees, comfortable common spaces..but the rest..during all my stay I've never heard any spanish word.. Just english (US owners and US guests eccept few exceptions). Los huespedes tambien como los vuluntarios (todos de lo estados unidos) quieren hacer fiesta y emborracharse todas la noches.. Costa... The flutterby is a dream come true . Everything about this place is spiced with love and creativity. The treehouses and lofty styled dorms are clean and comfy and I think everyone would be able to find some comfort here. The food at the flutterby was also not to disappoint! A creative mix of home like favourites and costa rican... More
