Mandala is relatively expensive for Puerto Lopez, but worth the price. The buildings are all beautifully crafted and the lush gardens lend privacy and enjoyment. The hosteria restaurant is good. The location is on the beach at the end of town, making it scenic and quiet, but just a sort walk to stores, restaurants, and the fish market where fishing... More

We spent 3 wonderful weeks at Hosteria Mandala starting in January, 2015. We especially loved the beach cabanas where we spent everyday lounging and playing in the surf. The hosts, Maja and Aurelio treated us almost as if family, and we thank them for that. The grounds are peaceful and put togather with love and beauty. Aurelio referred to it... More

Been here five nights and would like to stay longer. Large, comfortable cabañas, set in a beautiful garden, with iguanas up in the trees, and the only noise that of the waves breaking on the beach. Each cabaña has its own spacious sitting area, with chairs and hammocks. The veranda of the main building is also a great place to... More

We recently stayed for 2 nights at Hosteria Mandela and had an amazing time. The resort is on the far end of Puerto Lopez, a town that is walkable from one end to the other in about 15 minutes. We tried a number of restaurants in town including Mandela and must say that the food at the hotel was better... More

We stayed for 3 nights in January to wind down after almost a month in Ecuador. Our room was the Ballena (Whale) Cabin, which is a little close to the main building and some noise carries, but really there wasn't much. The room was very nice and had everything one could want. We didn't use the mosquito net over the... More

We stayed for 5 nights and had a pleasant time. I love the way all the rooms are isolated from the others by beautiful plants of all kinds. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Food from there restaurant was very good and priced reasonably. My only complaint is that the cabanas on the beach are used by locals or other outside... More

High rankings for this charming beachside bungalow. The owners were warm and helpful, recommended some great restaurants to go to. Being Swiss and Italian, of course they know where to go for good food! Loved the location, slightly down the beach away from the noise. The bungalow really was charming. The details and care in its creation gave it a... More

Stayed a few nights. Grounds are a joy to explore. Lush gardens. Ornate wood work. Colourful rooms. All different and comfortable. Private deck for each cabin with chairs and hammocks. Tasty meals available and drinks to be enjoyed inside or outer deck with view of the ocean and beach. Staff are well trained and helpful. Beach towels supplied with beach... More

When I decided to go to the beach while I was in Ecuador, and do what they call over there, "La ruta del sol" I was concern about the hotel I needed to choose. I heard from a relative about Hosteria Mandala, that is located in the middle of the trip, and I have to say it was a great... More

1) Take an idyllic, quarter mile of pristine Pacific Coast Ecuadorian beach. 2) Add a bunch of thatched-roof "chozas" with two hammocks each. 3) Put behind it a few acres of lush tropical gardens. 4) In the middle of the gardens build a couple dozen luxury and eco-friendly cabins. 5) Add a luxury restaurant (for guests only) with five-star haute...
