The Piedra Del Mar is by far the best hotel in Puerto Lopez! For the price, you get everything you could possibly ask for. Great service, amazing food (try Gabriel's tuna steak), clean/bright/well-sized bedrooms with comfortable beds and a beautiful ambiance that you rarely get in Ecuadorian hotels. You walk into the hotel and are greeted by the friendliest staff... More

My husband and I were booked to stay at Piedra Del Mar for 7 days in lovely Puerto Lopez. We arrived and were kindly greeted by the owner and shown to our room. It slowly settled in how terrible the place was. No hot water, dirty bathroom floors, pillows that were so hard, they seemed like couch cushions. Lots of... More

We have generally had really good luck with lodgings that are highly rated on tripadvisor…but not this time. We arrived to a filthy pool near the reception where I expected dinosaurs to hatch from the primordial ooze. After trying to sell us a tour for the next day and paying for the room we went upstairs to the dinky, dirty... More

We stopped in Puerto Lopez for a second time and found this great place. Frederico and his chef partner had just arrived from Argentina to manage the hotel, and they made sure we had everything we needed. They were anxious to get the kitchen going, so fixed us breakfasts with real coffee, and a couple custom ordered dinners - how... More

Really nice and helpful employees, small but clean swimmingpool, perfect rooms with good beds and large tv! Clean kitchen, free coffee tea and water all day. In the center just one block away from the boulevard. Only 100m from busterminal and main street with shops. In low season very cheap prices!

I am staying here now and they are making constant upgrades! The management is terrific! Location could not be better,as it is 3/4 block off the Malecon, so you do not get the very LOUD noise of the main street! Plaza is right in front and easy 2 minute stroll to everything! Security is great, manager/owner on property and very... More

Maybe things have changed since I spent a horrible night there in July 2011, but there was no breakfast included, our room was tiny, with beds crammed in and no space to walk around, cleanliness was dodgy at best, and for some reason there was a kitchen in the room next to ours, and the cooks were offended and angry... The owner was very service oriented. The breakfast was good and it was included with the price. The room was a little loud but its because we were close to the center of town which can be a curse and a blessing. The manager went above and beyond. It was raining when we left and he took us in his... More

I made a reservation, via Booking.com, for a spacious room with queen bed for a 3 star hotel. The room was NOT spacious, but small, dark, and, it so seemed, not very clean. The hotel was nowhere close to a 3 star hotel, even for Ecuador, where stars are given more than liberally. Perhaps because the owner was on vacation,... More

We decided that we wanted to treat ourselves for final stay after six months in South America and so glad we did. The air conditioning was a welcome relief, the room clean with comfortable beds, great bathroom and cable tv. We enjoyed using the outside space (although never made it into the pool). After staying in the Sun Inn (hostel)... More
