I have the privilege of living a couple doors down from the Thorndyke, and the owners Colleen and Glynn have made it an amazing place for lunch and dinner. I have never had a bad meal at the Thorndyke, nor have I ever had bad customer service. If you are ever in Grand Bank for any reason, I trip into... More

I stayed here enroute to St. Pierre for one night with my 88 year old Mother. Everything was lovely. The Dinner and Breakfast were superb, and far exceeded our expectations. Owner/operator, Colleen, was very friendly and helpful, albeit distracted with her own foot infection. The house is very old and a little bit run-down, albeit highly costly to keep up.... More

Had supper there a few weeks ago and the baked cod was delicious with an assortment of fresh vegetables. Would certainly dine there again. The wine list was handwritten which was refreshing even though it was a very short list. All 6 of us enjoyed our meals which included steak and the seafood platter. The owner shared some of the... This place totally rocks! We got ourselves a beautiful room here at the last minute and it was worth it! Colleen and Glynne really rock the Rock! The room was great, the balcony view of the bay was superb, and the breakfast was heart-stoppingly amazing! We're coming back to check out the kitchen for dinner asap!

This B&B was built in 1917 and much of the furnishings appear to be of the same vintage. It is a great jump- off spot for a trip over to St Pierre to brush up your French. Colleen is very friendly and her husband, Glynn, is a superb cook. The dinners in their dining room are probably the best anywhere... More

This old home built by a fishing captain is a great spot to stay and use as a base to visit the south coast and St. Pierre. However if you like hotels and large bathrooms this is not for you as the bathtub is small and the rooms have retained their original floors, etc and are by no means modern. The... More

Had high expectations for this property after reviewing their web site and TripAdvisor comments. Our shower was very small and water flow was minimal. Room cleanliness was questionnable. We were not able to have dinner in their dinning room because the place was booked solid. Breakfast was standard eggs-fish cakes-toast. Host were very friendly and volunteered their help.

It must be understood that this is a heritage property so do not expect crystal chandeliers and thousand count bedsheets. It is also a very small town and few, if any, other overnight options exist. However, there are a few things that could easily be improved and I expect will be as the owners get more clientel and build their... More

The Thorndyke was a highlight of our trip to Newfoundland. Great hosts, fine food, and very comfortable and attractive rooms. A built as a sea captain's home, its designation as a Registered Heritage Structure is well deserved. If the weather is good, do not fail to take a walking tour of Grand bank. The Thorndike is a fine place to... More
