This is a small hostel in a stunning location, with good coastal walks nearby. There is a cosy lounge/eating area with large tables, a smaller one, some comfortable chairs and games and books. It's a nice room to chill out in. The managers are charming and friendly. We stayed in what we were told was a twin room - we... More

It's a very small place, but that makes it so charming. It's one of my favourite Hostels. There is just one guestroom (you can separate the room by curtains), we got our own a two bed compartement. The kitchen andbthe livingroom is in the same room. One night we had schotish live music, it was great! And Achmelvich itself is... More

Was looking forward to staying here after booking and paying for a room months previous. When we turned up we were told there was a problem and the people form the night before had not removed their belongings from the room. They stated they had only found this out some five minutes ago. All the blame was put on the... More

Having stayed here a few times as a teenager I decided to take my girlfriend. We booked early to get the twin room and were delighted to discover it had a double-ish in it. The hostel itself had been tarted up since my last visit but is still basic. What is uniquely special is the location and size. It is... More

We went for one night and stayed for two. The hostel is situated on a beautiful part of the Sutherland coastline, with Achmelvich Beach a few minutes walk away, but other, even quieter beaches 5-10 minutes walk north. The hostel's simple, with a nice communal lounge/kitchen, where on our second night we were treated to the music of some traditional... More

We went to Achmelvich for 2 nights and stayed for 5! It's not the Ritz and yes it is closed during the day (as most hostels are) but it is in the most incredible place and the hostel itself is quiet, welcoming and charming and run by two lovely people. Its simplicity fits its surroundings entirely. If it's peace and... More

Hostel is basic but comfortable enough for the straightforward types, although it could do with a refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards. I stayed at a quiet time (about 10 people there) during the "heat wave" in July. It really was great - the hostel fits in perfectly with this secluded corner of Sutherland. If you're after home... but then, I like my beaches clean, remote, and without any facilities that most people seem to find necessary. Take note. There are no ice cream shops, candy floss, bingo halls, fish and chips, amusment arcardes, or any activities laid on. It's a beach, a beautiful silver shell sand beach set in the far north west of Scotland in the... More

The hostel is small and basic, clean and friendly. Beds were already made up which was a wecomed surprise. The two lasses running the hostel were friendly and chatty. The surrounding area is just fabulous. Take a bottle of wine down to the beach, sit and watch the sun setting. Paradise

The last review is a fair reflection but I would add that there are so many excellent things about this hostel. The wardens were both fantastic, it's kept very clean and beds were made up for your arrival. Whilst space was tight the people that we met made it all feel very comfortable. It reminded me more of the days... More
