To spend my last night in Scotland I chose this B&B. Small, simple, friendly, just what I needed, specially when you get a good price. Although I didn't get an en-suite room, that didn't matter, it was quiet, comfortable. I arrived late to Cairnryan, I arrived, checked in, had a beer while chatting with the owners, it was really nice.... More

My wife and I arrived hours late and expected a frosty welcome however nothing could be further from the truth. Fiona welcomed us warmly at the door and even upgraded our room :) I can't praise her enough... My only complaint was the bed was too comfy and we didn't want to get up in the morning.

We stayed for 2 nights and cannot praise Fiona and Alan enough. Stunning views over the bay from our ensuite room but even better the meals and particularly the full scottish(English) breakfast in the morning. Evening meals are beautifully cooked and delicious starting with a drink in the homely bar Not to be missed!

We stayed overnight when catching a very early ferry. Great contact beforehand with advice about restaurants, and a very warm welcome on our arrival. The room was a great size, very well equipped bathroom and really comfortable warm beds! We had a great sleep before our very early departure and were given a very good take away breakfast bag!

My husband and I stayed here with my elderly parents as a stop off on the way to Ireland. We were very warmly welcomed by the owners and despite our late arrival (nearly 9 pm) were offered drinks in the bar and dinner wasn't a problem either. At dinner we all opted for fish and chips and - wow- what... More

Booked this place as an overnight stay before taking the ferry to Ireland, we arrived late but were given an outsanding welcome and were shown to our room which, while plain, was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was across the landing but, as all the other rooms were en-suite, we had, effectively, exclusive use of it. The room had... More

The food was very good both dinner and breakfast. The room was a nice size and everything was clean but I didn't think it was as good as the reviews. We met some nice people at dinner and it was very close to the ferry.

Dear Dr Norman Many thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are very puzzled by the title of your review. I have re-read all the recent reviews and cannot find any mention in any of them of our guesthouse being a large or grand establishment. I am not sure exactly where you got the... More

Merchants House is in a great location for the Cairnryan ferries or for touring south west Scotland. The hosts are friendly and helpful; the accommodation and food good value for money. Bonuses are that there is a small bar; plus good quality evening meals are available and are excellent value. It's a B&B in a quaint old building; a good... More

We recently stayed at The Merchants House for one night before the ferry to Belfast. Fiona was so helpful in the run up to our stay with advice and picking flowers up for us. Couldn't thank her enough. The Merchants House was clean, comfortable and just what we needed, the bar downstairs with a lovely open fireplace was great to... More
