Glad we didn't read David 898's review before we arrived and I am glad to report that it is innacurrate and harsh. I wouldn't expect to be shown to a room before check in time and feel that he was lucky to have been given access. The feel and decor of the hotel is truly wonderful. The Victorian/Edwardian theme has... More

We stayed for two nights in early May after reading the good tripadvisor reviews. We were disappointed. The hotel has a Victorian theme, which is cute but outside of the reception it's more 1970's than 1870's with naff reproduction furniture (including a broken sofa in our room that the staff knew about before we told them) and tacky thread bare... I booked this hotel for a 2 night stay for my partners birthday. Booking was simple with great communication by Dianne the owner. On arrival was shown to our room on the 3rd floor. Good views of the river and it was nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and lovely linens made for a great night sleep. We ate at... More

We booked mid-week for an evening meal, having heard encouraging reviews. We were welcomed and shown into the 'sitting-room' for pre-dinner drinks. Quirky decor, but the small room was ok for our group of four. The Owner/ hostess was very professional and served us all the evening. Menu choice was from a set 'three-course' choice. Very promising. Soon after being... More

It was a last minute reservation over Easter whist we were at Crich 1940's event. What a find we were delighted. From the moment we stepped through the door and saw the beautiful decor of the restaurant and old bar we thought we had a winner. The bedroom was lovely with Victorian/ Edwardian furniture, very comfortable, nice shower and overlooked... More

I really liked this hotel, very quirky and filled with so much interesting stuff to look at , it took ages to get downstairs for breakfast ! Breakfast was really good, I had a mostly vegetarian with black pudding :) which was delicious. We booked to eat our evening meal here, (warm figs and blackberries with mascarpone mmmm !) also... We chose this hotel after reading all the positive reviews.. and we werent disappointed . We needed a relaxing weekend away before the working season started as we wouldnt get a holiday until the end of October. We live by the seaside and felt we needed to go inland and have a weekend of relaxation, fresh air, long walks and... More

We have just returned from an amazing few days staying at this beautiful hotel. The room was immaculate, the cleanest room we have stayed in (and we have stayed in many hotels!) lovely little touches and even homemade biscuits on the tea tray! The shower was amazing, very powerful and the towels huge and soft. Even though the room was... More

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend, we met up with friends and had the Riber and Mayfield rooms which are amazing, you will not be disappointed with either. Riber has the four poster and roll top bath but if you prefer a huge shower and a huge bed, it has to be the Mayfield. We were greeted by... More
