Other than the rather weird experience of sleeping in what must have been a servants room in the building adjacent to the main hotel this has to be in any list for the ultimate in simplicity, charm and downright peacefulness. If you go anywhere in the middle part of Norway then you need to spend 2 or 3 nights here... More

We just enjoyed two wonderful nights at the Walaker Hotell. From the moment we arrived we could feel the history, charm and elegance exude from this most lovely property. The common areas are warm and inviting, and the rooms are beautifully appointed and cozy. Simply put, this is a place that will just make you feel happy inside (perhaps even... More

You won't go wrong staying here. This is one of the best accommodation choices for a trip to Norway's fjords, however, the Walaker is really an upscale bed-and-breakfast and not a hotel. I say that because it lacks many of the amenities of a hotel, even one operating within the confines of a 300-year-old building. The staff is great, the... More

Had dinner in the end of May with friend in this historic Hotel - food was delicious: 4 course set menu with good vine and reception warmly dignified. One can simply feel the time stopping there... Lovely place, wonderful service!

Often the hotel write-ups offered in guidebooks or even on TA fail to capture the true essence of a hotel. The Walaker lived up to all the previous hype we read and heard. On check-in we were greeted by the current family member running the hotel. The hotel, as the guidebooks report, has been run by the same family since... More

My stay at this lovely hotel was mere happenchance, as I'd been planning to continue on from Urnes, but the road was closed due to unseasonably cold (snowy) weather. I'll admit this was by far the most expensive stay of my entire trip (circa $450AUD, which did incl. 4 course dinner). But hey, sometimes it's good to splurge. A chose... More

Staying at the Walsker Hotel and visiting.the Stave Church was one of my favorite days in Norway. Fortunately the weather cooperated. The hotel is charming, and the staff extremely helpful. My husband and I arrived without having eaten lunch. The owner had the kitchen make us delicious salmon sandwiches so that we could picnic at the church. What we did... More

We did not actually stay at the hotel, but we reserved a table for dinner one evening. Dinner was a delicious set 4 course menu. They also graciously accommodated the vegetarians in our group with their own menu's. Dinner was well paced and a really classic experience, well worth the cost if you are staying near Solvorn.

The Walaker's setting is magical. The food & service impeccable. And the staff friendly and charming. There are no TVs and I wish that I'd kept the cell phone off, to complete the experience. I'm in love with the Walaker and will keep returning!

We had such high expectations of Walaker. Some were more than met, others were not. The setting in the sweet little village of Solvern is breathtaking and the hotel is an experience not to be missed, overlooking the stunning fjord. We had booked one double room and one twin and paid top price for 'historic' rooms. The double we got... More
