First, let me say that had I read all of the reviews on this site, I could've spared myself the disappointment. I especially would've noted the GM's reply to one reviewer that threatened legal defamation action because of their review. Lol! With that said, it is a castle. It does have a view (as does 99% of Tuscany). On a... More

This was our last stop on our Premiere Inn Backroads Biking trip. A two night stay in this beautiful castle was worth the challenging ride of biking up to Montalcino. Our suite - Room 1 - was very comfortable and spacious with a beautiful view. Breakfast on the outside terrace both mornings was very spoiling and the buffet was perfect... More

Quite an amazing location for this castle. Nothing but first class service & the property amenities were great. The volcanoe heated natural spring water that was used for the whirlpools was soothing and warm. Food was good (stay away from the pork dish...tough and flavorless) & the breakfast buffet was excellent.

Firstly, the minor negatives - the remote location is very hard to find, even with the benefit of sat nav and the price is on the high side (about 400 Euros for one night). Once you get over this, however, the Castello di Velona is amazing. We arrived just after the place had hosted a wedding, and we had the... More

Oh my god, words cannot begin to explain this masterpiece of a hotel. My family was first introduced to Small Luxury Hotels of the World by accident many, many years ago. Since our first experience we have stayed at one "splurge" every trip we take. As I've grown up and started my own family I've tried to keep that same... More

The criteria: A castle! Why not if it's an option?! Took weeks pondering between Castello Banfi, Castiglion del Bosco and Castello di Velona but the more I procrastinated the rooms filled up and as SLH members it made most sense to stay here & enjoy a room upgrade. Serena (FOM) was fantastic! She was so helpful during the reservation process... More

My wife and I came here during our honeymoon, and it was our favorite hotel. The Castello is perched on on a hilltop surrounded by Tuscan valleys. It is an incredible setting. The service was excellent, with the front desk providing great advice on towns to visit and places to eat. They even sent an employee to Pisa to intercept... More

Absolutely loved this place. It is literally a castle with the most amazing views. Upon checking into the spa suite (impressive to say the least) - we immediately extended our stay for an extra night. Amazing food and wine, we had dinner there a few times. I wouldn't say the front desk was the friendliest I have encountered but nothing... More

We stayed here for our honeymoon in July and were very disappointed after being very excited. The room was nice but not as luxurious as other rooms we had stayed at in neighbouring areas, despite being more expensive. That was fine, the main problem was at night time. There was a terrible sulphuric smell in the room from " a... More

One of the best hotel experiences of our lives. This hotel is fantastic. Situated on a hilltop overlooking the Val d' Orcia, is a refurbished castle. The view to the hotel and from the hotel were both some of the best we saw in our two weeks in Italy. Add in the surrounding vineyard, the pool, the service, the modern... More
