I was new to staying in hostels and had a few bad experiences before I found Casa Zen. It is the best hostel I have stayed at. When i first got there the owner really did not seem very friendly but he was okay in the end. The room was clean, comfortable and the location is absolutely ideal! Close to... More

I stayed at Casa Zen for 4 days 3 nights. The place is extreme far from everything so be prepared for the longest commute. It took 7 hours to get there from San Jose. I used the $15 bus service which is at 6am or 2pm. The bus is really comfortable and has ac, it's just a long ride. I... More

Myself and 3 other gals stayed at Casa Zen for 4 nights during our cross country Costa Rica adventure. We stayed in 2 double rooms that were quiet, comfortable, and exceptionally clean. The shared bathroom and shower facilities were also immaculate and the set-up allowed for plenty of privacy. The property was beautiful and set up in a way that... More

Imagine 90 minutes in an open air studio with howler monkeys and birds as the soundtrack for your yoga class. That's how it is at Casa Zen's yoga center. They provide 3 yoga classes a day, 7 days a week, and teach a variety of practices like Ashtanga, Bhakti, Anusara and Vinyasa. All of the teachers are fantastic, unique in... More

My sister and I stayed here for a week in March, and it was the perfect place to base ourselves for the many things to do and see in Santa Teresa. Jennifer and Julio were very welcoming and knowledgable about the area, and their other staff were also very friendly. They helped us set up a surfing lesson (I have... More

This hostel is perfect if you are looking for surfing and yoga- just as the guest house says! Depending on what you want to do in Santa Teresa, this location is a little bit far from some of the other restaurants and shops closer to the main part of town. It really hosts a true surfers vibe. It is secluded... More

I was SO impressed by this guesthouse and property. Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple or traveling with your children there is space for you here. They have shared, private and apartment-style lodgings available. The managers and staff are super friendly and they truly help make your stay in Costa Rica special. You want to go snorkeling? Casa Zen was great. The staff were friendly, the grounds were beautiful, the rooms were well appointed and comfortable. But the real shining star of this place was the kitchen. It's been a month since I stayed there, and I still can't get over it. A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL, PUBLIC USE KITCHEN IN A HOTEL. And not only that, they have... More

The location is fantastic and the owners are so lovely. I really enjoyed taking Jen's yoga classes, and my husband was able to hire a surf board through the guest house. Our room was clean, the bathrooms were clean, and it felt very safe and secure.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are rather remote beach towns, and that is what makes them so special! Thankfully, even though we are a little off the beaten path, there are still quite a few services available to visitors. This is a excellent area to relax practicing of Yoga and Surf.On the first floor, we have six private rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples or pairs of friends. The rooms have either a double bed or two single beds. We also have two larger private rooms on the first floor, each with beds for three people. Scroll down for photos and prices for our private rooms. Upstairs you will find the apartment plus three additional rooms with varying capacities, featuring exterior doors as well as interior doors connecting to the apartment. An abundance of shared bathrooms are also located on the first floor (there are many to choose from and they are always clean!).We also have two well-equipped communal kitchens, including our signature chef’s kitchen, complete with a professional quality stove, microwave, blenders, and a giant stainless steel refrigerator. We offer a amazing Yoga deck with every day class. Our helpful, bilingual staff is always ready to help plan other tours and activities in the area, including surf lessons, canopy tours, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), visits to nearby waterfalls, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding, ATV rentals and more. We can also assist you with restaurant recommendations, reservations and travel planning, so your trip can be totally relaxing and worry-free! ... more   less
