After doing alot of research on where to stay we found the Funky Monkey had great reviews. There were 6 of us staying and decided that the apartment would allow us all to stay together. Upon arrival we were showed our room by Gabi, the owner. We were informed to keep the a/c off when we weren't in the room... More

I recently spent a week at the Funky Monkey Lodge in Santa Theresa and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great atmosphere, great food and some real adventure. The owners, Gabi and Emelio, were always available to make sure everyone was happy and enjoying themselves, and the activities in and around the hotel are incredible. If you are... More

I recently stayed at Funky Monkey this winter with my boyfriend. We stayed in two different types of rooms -- a private room with a/c ($120 a night) and a hostel type cabin that we shared with 6 other people (I think it might have been $14 a person a night). I consider the private room to be extremely overpriced... More

We stayed two nights here. What a great little place. There are a several bungalows, a hostel and apartments at this hotel. You can hear any little noise here so bring earplugs or an IPOD to help you sleep. We stayed in bungalow 1 - loved laying in the hammock and listening to the birds, bugs and monkeys. The outdoor... We stayed here for three nights and wished we could have stayed there for 300 more! what a great place. everyone who worked here was so friendly and would offer great advice about activities or transportation. Since all the bungalows where taken we ended up staying in the AC apartment. It cost a little much, but the views, size, cleanliness,... More

Me and my buddy recently stayed four nights at the Funky Monkey. We were in Bungalow #1. The Bungalow was the farthest away from the bar so there was little to no noise except for the sounds of the jungle that woke me up every morning. Those howler monkeys get up early. The room was spotless and cleaned daily. The... More

WOW!!! I have stayed at some pretty amazing hotel, villas and condos from Kauai to Cozumel this year and the Funky Monkey beat them all, hands down. We stayed in bungalow #1 February 20th-24th. The place was charming, super clean and epitomized what a stay in the remote Costa Rican jungle should be. The food was very inexpensive and fantastic.... More

Just stayed for the second time at Funky Monkey. The location is brilliant, just five minutes from the best surf in the area, and still nestled away in the trees so you get some privacy and some quiet at night. The atmosphere is super friendly, the food is top - variety every night. There is a private pool to chill... More

We only stayed here one night and had just come from Shaka Surf Camp up the road, which we love. Funky Monkey was affordable, I think $100 with a/c. No bargain, but decent. If you get a room with a/c you'll have a long walk up the stairs to carry your luggage, etc. It was clean and had nice views,... More

A true "Surfers Lodge". Owners and staff all avid surfers. Sushi Night is a big hit must not be missed. Rooms are very basic but comfortable and roomy. Don't plan on always having hot water, seems as if there system is a little finicky. Easy walk to everything, grocery store, restaurants, surf rental, etc. Pretty Good Value.
