Cuesta Arriba is a good place especially for backpackers and surfers. It is located right opposite the beach access and one of the main surf spots of the area. The rooms were basic but clean and it had a common kitchen and a wifi, even though the wifi was not always available in the rooms. To my liking the rooms... More

I read about the hostel in Lonely Planet, so my wife and I stopped in and planned on staying for 3 nights (2 week vacation in CR). After the first day, we extended our reservation to 5 nights, because we absolutely loved it. The place is amazing, it's a close walk to the beach, the owners (Barbara and Martin) were... More

Planned on a month long trip around Costa, but once we landed at this hostel, we never left. Easily spent 2+ weeks here, Barbra & Martin have worked tremendously hard to make this spot an oasis. Don't have to wander far from the hostel to find groceries- always a fun gathering in the kitchen after sunset, and after dinner movie... More

Cuesta Arriba was quiet enough that we could get a good nights sleep to wake up at dawn to surf, but friendly enough to hang out and drink Imperials with other travelers at night (but not too late because they close it down at 11). Reviews have been complaining about the rules and the signs, but without the staff keeping... More

Overall we were very happy with this hostel. Our private room was very clean and comfortable and had effective airconditioning. The pool is nice and clean, and bathrooms are generally clean (floor tended to get a little dirty/muddy as the day went on). A few of the negatives though: 1. On check-in the owner wanted cash up front payment (already... More

It was my first time in Costa Rica and I couldn't think of a better place to welcome me to the country. Everyone there was very nice and super helpful. It was clean, cozy and safe! Loved it. When I go back I'm definitely going to stay there again. Keep up the good work Barbara and Martin!

Had a great vibe... Martin and Barbara care about their guests and take pride in their place. Sandrina looks after everyone! I found this place to be a great spot... 100 meters from the beach, a pool to lounge around in the evening, a good kitchen, fantastic laundry service, a TV room that served as a great yoga studio for... This is my second time staying at Cuesta Arriba and I love this place! My girlfriend and I stayed in a private room for a little over a week and had a great time. The room was small but very clean, very affordable and the a/c worked great. =) There are many places to stay in Sta Teresa but none... More

NOT "our pick" Was placed in a damp smelling room...with no comfortable chairs or space to just hang out. The entire hostel, lacks a warm cozy feel. The upstairs "tv room" has no comfortbale seats and poor light. The entire hostel has posted signs telling you what NOT to do.. a poor welcome for any traveller. also breakfast should NOT... More

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Cuesta Arriba B&B hostel. It is unfortunate that you did not mention any of this to us. We would have gladly helped you in any way possible and make your stay more comfortable. We offer two thousand square meters of shady haven with trees, monkeys, birds, etc. We believe... More

What an incredible place! Having never before stayed in a dorm style bed and breakfast, Cuesta Arriba was quite a surprise. Beautiful, clean and terribly close to the shore, this treasure of a location will be the first, and likely only place I recommend to folks when traveling to Costa Rica. It was perfect in every respect. It is appropriate... More
