My stay at Monarch Resort was really enjoyable. What was especially nice about this resort, was the abundant wildlife and the abilty to photograph a variety of mammals and birds at close range. This place is great for nature lovers and those looking for a quiet place to relax. During my stay, the staff were warm and genuinely friendly, but... more

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Monarch for 10 days..We found what we were truly looking for in a beautiful modern villa overlooking Papagayo Bay .... nestled into the trees and sharing gorgeous sunset views with our monkey 'neighbors" , we felt that we had found a rare treasure. The staff were very accomodating and... more

I was there ALONE in the entire resort. No activities whatsoever. It was a small pool and a small restaurant combined with a lobby and reception area. No other places to go. It was miss-represented as an all-inclusive resort. There was a mandatory collection of $76 a day for what they call “all-inclusive”. Beer or any other alcohol weren't included.... more

We started off our honeymoon at the Monarch just last week. After reading some of the reviews, I felt a bit uneasy. I have to say that the people at the resort were extremely nice and accomodating. It was a beautiful hotel close to a secluded portion of the beach. The rooms were very spacious and immaculate. The food was... more

It is one of the most beautiful places in the world, has a unique flora and fauna. In the morning we saw the monkeys from our balcony. The staf was great, Mr. Paul took us around the hotel and was aware that nothing will happen to us . Thanks Monarch more

My wife and I stayed at the monarch not by choice, but by circumstance. We ran into some problems with Expedia's booking process and were lucky enough to end up at this great all inclusive resort, who were willing to help us out while we sorted our stay out with the people at Expedia. If you don't like filet mignion... more

Wow, I've never had an experience as bad as the one I just had at the Monarch "Resort" (haha!) Hotel in Costa Rica. I am not particularly picky and loved all the other (4) hotels we stayed at while vacationing there. I will try to be brief -- 1) Room was NOT clean - MULTIPLE pubic hairs in bathtub (ugh!!!)... more

Overall, the Monarch is a great place. I loved the rooms and the staff. The location was secluded. The menu was the same for lunch and dinner. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt and limited cereal choices. You could also order from a limited breakfast menu but after 7 days..it got a little repetitive. Waking up with the monkeys was... more

We stayed at the Monarch in March 2009 for 7 nights on the all-inclusive plan. Our room (studio) was comfortable and fairly large. The bed was comfy, AC too loud to put on at night, bathroom was alright. The housekeeping could have been better but overall our accomodation was nice. I do not think that the pool is small but... more

The Monarch is a Hotel/Resort that has a lot of, as of yet, unrealized potential. The location is great (although lacking a first rate beach), the rooms very large, comfortable and neatly appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful, but perhaps could use a bit more training. The food is adequate, but for the price charged for all-inclusive ($150 a... more
