I think I can say this is about my favourite hotel ever, and I have been in quite a few of them all over the world! This is not just a hotel, it's a retreat into the 1930s, with atmosphere abounding. There is a main hotel building, with outbuildings amid lovely quaint gardens, all very close to the main building,... More

We always have an amazing time at the Montagu Country Hotel. Gert, PJ and the staff are friendly and so accommodating. The newly renovated rooms in the main hotel are luxurious with the most stunning views of the mountains. A wonderful three night stay. Will definitely return soon.

Dear Sharon J Thank you for the review, much appreciated. April in Montagu is just perfect, with the autumn colours everywhere. The good weather continues well into winter, and you did the right thing to stay 3 nights! We look forward to welcome you back soon. Kind regards, P-J Basson General Manager More

This is aunique and extremely charming modernistic hotel. Walking into it is literally stepping back into the 1920's era but with all the mod cons of the 21st century. The interior is decorated top to bottom art nouveau style with furnishings and furniture authentic to the era. Each bedroom has its own unique style with high ceilings, huge bathrooms and... More

Dear NELLE1 Thank you for the great review and pictures. It is very satisfying to know our offering at the hotel is so much appreciated. We are heading into autumn now, and it is most probable the best time of year to visit the area. Compared to Irish weather, this could just be close to heaven for you! We look... More

We only had one night here-what a pity! After a long journey and many hotels, this by far is our favourite! So characteristic, with every room different. Staff were friendly and courteous. Two small swimming pools available and really relaxing atmosphere. Dinner was plentiful (beef) - really tasty. Breakfast had a great choice of food. Tea/Coffee facilities most welcome following... What a find the most amazing hotel in this interesting small town. The hotel is decorated and furnished in Art Deco style, with all the bedroom having their own identity, I peeped into a few doors! Ours was at the front and although we worried about noise it wasn't a problem at all. The staff were so polite and helpful,... More

Dear MillyWestYorks Thank you for a great review, especially coming from a senior reviewer like yourself! Route 62 is a special road to travel and explore the villages of the Klein Karoo, with Montagu the obvious choice as a stop over. I'm glad you appreciate the Art Deco, we have a lot of fun with the theme. I agree with... More

The Montagu Country Hotel was our choice of stopover from Wilderness to Franschhoek, and we are really pleased we did. The rooms are varied and quaint/old fashioned. We stayed in the garden room which was like a tiny 1960's one bed council flat, with French doors, our companions stayed in the palatial rondavel "The African Hut" Both were more than... More

Dear WinkleyTraveller I almost feel intimidated looking at your number of reviews! I'm glad you had a good time with us, and thank you for the compliments in your review on Montagu Country Hotel. We've not had Marty as a guest in the hotel, so I'm not too sure about time travel, but we try to offer an authentic experience... More

We stayed here for one night in a classic double art deco style room at the front of the main hotel block. The room was very large and included some great original style art deco furniture. The whole hotel has a wealth of art deco detailing and is furnished with some amazing period pieces. It was like stepping back in... More

Dear Wyretraveller Thank you for taking the time to write a very comprehensive review. My apologies for the mix up with your table allocation for dinner. I have to agree with you that one night is simply not enough to experience what Montagu has to offer, and that a minimum of 2 nights here is needed. We enjoy decorating the... More

Dear nkbourne Thank you for the review, much appreciated. Our art deco collection is growing slowly but surely, a great theme to work with. We get so many comments and opinions on the pieces, specifically from our UK guests - I think the BBC is to blame for that! We look forward to welcome you back some day. Kind regards,... More

I loved the Art Deco building and the furniture. It has a tranquility about it and definitely transports you back to a time and a place in the 1920-1930 -ish. It also means that you should definitely be aware that fish is not a GOOD option to eat at this establishment. It's more known for it's lamb/ steak or any... More
