My friends and I spent two nights at The Crossing Backpackers, and we really enjoyed our stay. The owner is great, allowing us to add an extra night and include an extra person with less than a days notice, as well as arranging for a late night key pickup, giving us free towels to use, and giving good advice on... I came for 2 weeks and I stayed for 4. I came for the beauty of Tongariro National Park, and found so much more here. You feel away from it all, surrounded in peace and tranquility, yet in the middle of everything you came here to see; the location is priceless. The place is spotless, the kitchen fully stocked and... More

Sarah your wonderful, your energy is amazing, it's so contagious you had us all on a life high the whole time you were here! you know it's a real shame people have to leave and go back to the real world, maybe we could just turn the place into a commune and live off raspberries and wine in the spa... My daughter booked two nights so we could walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Transport to and from the trail ends was arranged by the hostel and all went very smoothly. I only wish we could have stayed a few more days as the hostel itself was a well equipped labyrinth of interesting spaces with lots of beautiful natural shaped timber... More

As soon as we stepped foot into the backpackers, we were warmly welcomed by Bryan, the owner of the backpackers. Bryan could not have been anymore accommodating which made our stay here very enjoyable and stress free. Any questions we had in regards to the crossing, our room or local places to eat, Bryan was always there to lend a... More

All the staff were s welcoming and friendly. Rooms and common areas were really clean and comfortable. Showers much cleaner compared to usual backpackers I've visited! We both loved our stay and wish it could have been longer. Thanks so much :)

We have been visiting "The Crossing Backpackers" now for over 5 years and not once in many, many visits have we been disappointed. The hosts Bryan and Miriam have always been friendly and welcoming, the bunk beds are comfortable, showers are hot, rooms are clean, and facilities are good. This place IS Unique - walk through wardrobes, spare Lord of... More

Normally we stay at The Crossings during the Winter as it is ideally placed for skiing either Turoa or Whakapapa. Many of the visitors in Winter are repeat guests from NZ, coming to board or ski, with just a few tourists. We love the place. Wide range of rooms from doubles, small bunk rooms, to bigger dorms with more bunks.... More
