We enjoyed our short stay at the Crossing Backpackers. Ignore google maps that sends you into the woods instead of the backpackers but once found it is a welcoming place with very friendly people, great rooms, more than adequate bathroom facilities, good kitchen, nice outdoors, lovely tv room and hidden extras. Conveniently close to the Alpine crossing and fantastic to... More

We arrived at 11pm with a group of 10 people for 2nights, then we found out we made the reservation for next week.. oopss... but the owner of the hostel was really nice and after half an hour he managed to give us two rooms for two nights. Best service I have ever had! The hostel is really nice, good... More

Bryan and Miriam are fabulous hosts and made me feel very welcome. They are very knowledgeable about the area. The transport company they use to take guests to the Alpine Crossing is a good choice, as the company will not go if they feel that conditions are dangerous. The hostel has some lovely quirky parts. Check out the wardrobe!

When our booked accommodation went wrong we checked Trip Advisor for another suitable place which led us to The Crossing Backpackers. Bryan really went out of his way to help us get the right accommodation for a mother her adult son and 2 friends. The place is clean, tidy and has all the facilities you could want including a spa.... More

A lovely relaxing hostel in a nice setting. They offer lifts to and from the National Park bus stop and a great package deal for transport to do the tongariro crossing walk and there is even a hot tub to relax in when you finish! Really nice sitting room and even a little 'cinema' room. The owner is really friendly... More

Excellent and very friendly services offered by Bryan. We had booked the summer package for tongariro crossing but could not do it the first time due to last minute weather changes. We had to rebook and were successful second time. But during this period regular correspondence was maintained and bookings were changed without any hesitation or extra charges. I am... More

Upon booking in to do the tongariro crossing we were advised to purchase over a hundred dollars of additional equipment (which wasn't required to do the walk) and after chasing up to find the pick up time were told that the weather conditions meant that it was unlikely we would be able to do the crossing (despite them having this... Bryan is the most helpful manager you could meet and will go out of his way to help. Facilities are basic but all you need. If you are doing the Tongariro Crossing you can be picked up at the Crossing Backpackers at 7 am and returned about 5 pm for $30. Located 6 km south of National Park.

We had a very comfortable stay at The Crossing Backpackers. We stayed in the double room with en suite that is right next to the check-in desk (#4 we think). The bed was very comfortable and had good sheets/blankets. We were actually surprised how nice the bedding was for a backpacker property. The owner was extremely nice and even loaned... More
