We had a wonderful stay at the Skotel for two nights in November. First off, the location and views are stellar. We checked out all of the other hotels in the area and the Skotel was the best. We could see Mt. Ruapehu covered in snow from our room as well as the snow covered Whakapapa mountain range.....breathtaking. The hotel... more

We stayed one night with 3 people in this hotel. We had a backpackers room which was very cosy and spacious. Splendid location to start walking the tongariro crossing and super views on the mountains more

Just wanted to say a big Thank You to the SKOTEL staff in Whakapapa and to the TATS team that helped us with the bookings. The Skotel has a fantastic location with breathtaking view all around and only minutes away from the ski fields. Our stay at the Skotel Alpine Resort was wonderful. The service was great and staffs are... more

First and foremost - STAFF at the resort were wonderful. Service was great right from the front desk, to the bar & dining room alike. We always had friendly & helpful face ready at our fingertips. Marc Hay,(General Manager) and his entire team really made us feel like one of their family. Special thanks to the 'Chef' who cleaned &... more

We stayed here for 2 nights so that we'd be close by to do the Tongariro crossing. The views over the mountains in the evenings were fantastic, but the hotel itself failed to impress. We had a ground-floor room which you reached after walking down a corridor straight out of some sort of institution. The room itself looked like it... more

Stayed there for a few days in April, everything in the hotel was brilliant. The rooms were comfortable, cosy, well looked after. The bathroom facilities were of a good standard. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The bar staff couldn't have been nicer! The food provided was superb, majority of meals were nice; quality and quantity. Fantastic setting within... more

The only thing going for the Skotel is it's location. Our view was of Mt Ngarohoe at dawn. For an average ski lodge it's not bad, but you don't pay for an average ski lodge. Basic noisy rooms, poor facilities and probably the unfriendliest staff I have ever encountered. Note to self - in the future just stay at National... more

Stayed at Skotel in January with extended family. Location of the hotel is great, not far to the skilifts and a short walk to the tavern and village. Lots of good bushwalks start around or near to the hotel. Room are very tired and need a refurb. We had a superior room for 2 adults and 2 teenage children. The... more

Hotel is in a fantastic location in the Whakapapa village and the rooms have amazing views. The downside is the rooms haven't been renovated for over 20 years. They smell musty and the carpets are worn. The other problem is overbooking. We have twice booked here in the last year but been turned away as the hotel is full. Alternative... more
