This is a place to experience for its old world, Agatha Christie charm. It's fun for a night or two. Get a package deal (breakfast and dinner included) as the restaurant is very expensive otherwise. The "set-menu", package deal dinner has lots of choice and is excellent. More

The Chateau was built in the early 20th century as a grand hotel. They offer cabins to stay in behind the hotel, which are 1/4 the price of the hotel rooms, but still have full access to all the hotel amenities. The cabins were nice but the beds were miserable. Having said that, I would stay there again given the opportunity. More

The Chateau is the best spot for hiking the Tongariro Alpine Pass, as it is clean and professionally staffed. The main lobby has a nice old-time feel, yet the hotel needs a bit of freshening up.
