This hotel was great to experience. The building is amazing and the location can't be beat for taking in the park. Our room was small but clean. The only complaint we had was that the heating wasn't effective enough. The restaurant was one of the best we ate at during out trip. more

This hotel is old and it shows - the rooms are outdated, the carpets are dirty, the facilities in the hotel are old. We stayed in a standard room - very simple, but had everything we needed. The staff was courteous and helped us book our transportation to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing location start. There are not a lot of... more

We have just got back from our weekend away without the kids. We went to the Chateau for our 20th wedding anniversay, as we had stayed the night in a motel behind it, 20 years ago on our wedding night. This time was much better as we were in the origional building and had the sun decided to shine we... more

We have just returned from our honeymoon weekend at the Chateau - a place I have wanted to visit since I was a child. Driving up to the hotel is like being in your own movie - it's so grand and in an absolutely stunning position in the middle of the National Park, with a short 10 minute drive up... more

We stayed at the Chateau in September 2009 to fulfil a lifelong dream of, well, visiting the Chateau. We booked rooms and prepaid around 5 weeks beforehand. We reserved premium rooms, as we were told over the phone that the vast majority of these had views of the mountain. We arrived in mid afternoon and were left standing in reception... more

We only stayed one night here on our journey through the North Island but thoroughly enjoyed our time. We stayed in a room in the newer wing of the hotel, which was warm and had a good amount of space, including bathroom. Bed was comfortable but TV was a little small (seems to be a theme in NZ). The highlight... more

A travel agent recommended the Bayview. It looks great on the web. Room rates seemed reasonable. All looked good. Right ?? WRONG !! This place was a financial trap for us and food the reason for our complaint. Consider $21 pp for a continental breakfast. We found Fergusson's Cafe across the road then discovered it was controlled by Bayview Management.... more

My husband and I spent two nights at this hotel and loved it! As you approach it, the hotel dominates the scenery with its impressive architecture, and the location is simply spectacular. The hotel has a charm of its own. As you see it and then walk in is like turning back the clock to the 30s, when the hotel... more

Wonderful setting and some nice interior decor. Beyond that this is a hotel on the cheap. Breakfast is self-service and comes up to the standard of any truckstop (watery mushrooms, sparse bacon, plenty of overcooked beans, solid poached eggs). The room had dirty glasses and cups. We had a executive spa suite and our toiletries? A small bottle of "Bayview"... more

If you are expecting a posh hotel with antiques and marble floors, then this isn't your hotel. It may look like it from the beautiful location and outside, but it really is a motel 6 within those brick walls. But, we LOVED it. Great service, very attentive and clean. There are marks on the walls and holes in the carpets,... more
