Only had one night in this Grand old place and it was great! Beds are comfy and room was warm and cozy, Bathroom could have done with an upgrade, though it was Clean. We were give the same room that Queen Elizabeth stayed in on her 52/53 visit lol Claim to fame. I not sure if i believe the Haunting... More

Had 1 night in this hotel on a recent trip to Waitomo Caves. The hotel is nicely located on top of the hill of Waitomo. My wife said it reminded her of the Grand Budapest Hotel crossed with The Shining. The hotel could be a lot better if some tlc were to be given to the rooms and to the... More

This old hotel definitely needs some sprucing up, ie replacing the very worn carpet, but although faded, everything was very clean, and we had a beautiful bedroom with a very comfortable bed. It reminded me of a mini Stanley Hotel. I think there was only one other couple staying at the hotel so it was very quiet. It was quite... More

Looked very promising. Warm welcome on arrival. Our room was clean and adequate, but desperately in need of redecoration. Wallpaper peeling and chipped paint. There was no aircon, and room was very hot, even with window open. The public areas are well maintained, but to say we're going into the busiest time of year, not impressed. Restaurant open for breakfast only, and... More

Pretty cool looking Hotel, but probably could have done better for how much we paid, but guess we paid for the historical aspect and location. It was very beautiful, grand and old. All wall paper, fittings etc were old and vintage which was pretty cool. Everyone who worked there was lovely and happy to help. Easy check in and check... More

Lovely workers, lovely hotel. Claims that it's Haunted. Stayed for 2 nights. Didn't see any ghost, but definitely heard strange voices and had the goosebumps every time I walked through the corridor. LOL If you're in for a Thrill definitely check it out. The Ghosts are as friendly as the staff.

Stayed with older kids at the hotel before doing a Spellbound Caves tour the next day. Wonderful family room, enormous, with king and two single beds - v comfortable. Slightly dated room, very dated bathroom but it's such a grand old dame you can forgive that. And it's being slowly renovated with the kitchen and restaurant underway now. What I... More

It was a privilege to stay in such an interesting, historic building - especially for the price ($89 for a last minute booking on a queen room which included free wifi). Yes, the place is undergoing renovation so the décor is pretty old and dated in some parts. That just added to the charm for me. Importantly, the rooms were... More
