We stayed in the aeroplane cockpit apartment and it didn't disappoint. The site is quiet and surrounded by beautiful countryside with the various motels scattered about. The cockpit apartment has 2 double beds with one bed directly behind the pilot seats. The headroom is limited in that bedroom and you have to climb a ladder to get to it so... More

We stayed at the hobbit house, which was a fun novelty, especially after watching the final installment of the Hobbit movie. The place is remote, and a fun novelty, but I wouldn't stay more than a night or two. There's an interesting story about the fellow who started it, and it's the thing we tell people who ask how our... More

Previously stayed at the hobbit house years ago and novelty was good, rooms basic. Stayed at the train this time and acknowledge that it's summer, but it was like a hot box out of Coolhand Luke! Fans on full bore but a long time in kicking in. Accommodation outside of that ok, a little tired and a bit of a... More

We really enjoyed the novelty of this themed accommodation being away from home and hopping from hotel to hotel for almost a month. We stayed in the Hobbit themed hotel which was delightfully twee and lightly furnished, I would agree with other reviewers however that the curtains really could be substituted for something of higher quality without losing the visual... We stayed here as alternative accommodation in Waitomo didn't meet our requirements. We stayed in the hobbit house. The whole site appeared tired and gave the impression of better times in the past. The hobbit house was clean but sparse and the curtains definitely needed changing. We stayed at the 4 star Langham Hotel in Auckland in a luxury suite... More

We spent 2 nights in the Hobbit Hole unit. These units are cosy, with comfortable beds, well equipped kitchenettes and I loved the heater in the bathroom! Perfect after a day of hiking and cave rafting. The units look authentic from the outside (complete with animals grazing on our hobbit hole roof!) and the view from the front door is... More

Overpriced and ordinary. Reads well but forget it. Yes it's quirky but....... If you are prone to allergies the ship and hobbit holes will not work as materials etc are not suitable. They are really focused on the show and really need to lift their game in the accommodation side of things.

dont know what your on about as for focusing on a show , as over the last 2 years the show has been wound back to be only for group bookings which are only about 1 a week where as in previous years we where providing a show every day so that comment is definitely false . . The Hessian... More

We went last March. When we arrived we couldn't find anyone so went to the airplane , note and key in the door. It was so hot you couldn't stay in there. There was only one side to climb into our bed, my husband had broken his leg the previous year, how he was going to climb in and out... More

My partner and I stayed in the hobbits hole for two nights and loved every minute of it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The cabin had everything needed in a self contained accommodation. Enough room for a family as well as there was a spare room with 2 sets of bunk beds . My only nit picky negative... More
