We spent 2 nights in the Hobbit Hole unit. These units are cosy, with comfortable beds, well equipped kitchenettes and I loved the heater in the bathroom! Perfect after a day of hiking and cave rafting. The units look authentic from the outside (complete with animals grazing on our hobbit hole roof!) and the view from the front door is... More

Overpriced and ordinary. Reads well but forget it. Yes it's quirky but....... If you are prone to allergies the ship and hobbit holes will not work as materials etc are not suitable. They are really focused on the show and really need to lift their game in the accommodation side of things.

We went last March. When we arrived we couldn't find anyone so went to the airplane , note and key in the door. It was so hot you couldn't stay in there. There was only one side to climb into our bed, my husband had broken his leg the previous year, how he was going to climb in and out... More

My partner and I stayed in the hobbits hole for two nights and loved every minute of it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The cabin had everything needed in a self contained accommodation. Enough room for a family as well as there was a spare room with 2 sets of bunk beds . My only nit picky negative... More

We stayed in a hobbit unit for one night while visiting the caves. Handy location - close to the caves and Huhu café. The unit was very cute and the kids enjoyed the novelty of it, but it was expensive for what it was - when you're paying well over $30 as you can sit out in the big deck0... More

We stayed at the Hobbit room for three nights but unfortunately that was 2 nights too long. We like others went there for the novelty of sleeping in a Hobbit house. The outside of the unit looks great but the inside is average and a let down. It was just a very basic 2 star room. The main bed is... More

Stayed in the ship with 16 boys in soccer team from Sydney, Australia. Sleeping arrangements quirky. Very neat, clean & fun way to stay overnight. Enjoyed the Kiwi Show from Billy Black. Breakfast great too! Plenty to feed the growing lads. Hospitality couldn't be better.

Was really cool! Stayed in the train for just one night but it was so neat! Am planning a trip again and Waitomo caves and will definitely be using this hotel again. Lots of people saying it was expensive but I didn't find it dear! Very clean, very well set up and the actual reception is so cool full of... More

My mother and I stayed in one of the hobbit rooms. The only reason we stayed here was because I really wanted to stay in a hobbit room. The room was very cute. We did find a cockroach when we first arrived, but we didn't find any in addition to that one. My main problem was that if you don't... More

I worried smell and hygiene problems as mentioned by other reviewers, but I did not notice these problems when we have stayed in the captains room. This is really expensive after I stayed in other apartments.
