My wife and I just got back from our second Mawimbi/Holbox trip this year.. Why - a few simple reasons really, 1) we have not found a better "off the grid" place, 2) you will not find a cleaner or nicer place than Mawimbi, 3) its very inexpensive all the way from the great prices for a room to eating... more

We spent 3 nights at this lovely beachfront hotel on Isla Holbox. Booked the whale shark tour through the hotel as they have their own guided tour. Highly recommend you go through them as they don't rush you and you spend as much time as you like in the water swimming with the whale sharks. We also got to swim... more

We stayed at the Mawimbi for four nights at the end of August, paying around 100 USD a night. Our main reason for going to Isla Holbox was to see the whale sharks (we have dived and snorkelled all over the world without seeing a whale shark before). We left very happy. The island: Is gorgeous, probably the most beautiful... more

We stayed for 5 nights and we were very happy with the hotel. While we understand what another traveler said about some guests getting more attention, we were happy to be left alone and the staff was always helpful when asking for tips, etc. The only downside were the hard beds. The location is great and the beach is great... more

This was my first trip to Holbox Island and I was a little afraid I would be able to stay an entire 7 days in this location plus had some anxiety about just getting there. When we arrived at the Hotel Mawimbi, I immediately knew that I had not only made the right choice of hotel but that I would... more

This place was clean and no frills. We got a vibe from the staff that is hard to describe. We were almost ignored because it seemed that there were other "more important" people staying there that week than us. The place is clean and the beach and the beach chair options are great. We met some new friends since we... more

We had a balcony room with a queen bed and we thought it was excellent. The AC was cold and shower hot. The grounds are very well kept. The bar area is nice and the food / snacks were very good. The staff took excellent care of us. It was very hot on the island when we visited, but it... more

I don't know what the rest of the Island has to offer. The Mawimbi grounds are really nice and the management is nice. However, the quality for the money paid is relatively low. 90 $ for very small room with a mosquito net with a lot of holes. This may be the best Holbox has to offer for the price,... more

I read through many reviews on here while looking for a hotel, so I'm trying to give helpful details and to answer questions that I had after reading reviews. My boyfriend and I had been searching vacation spots and hotels all over Mexico when I happened to find an article about swimming with whale sharks off of Holbox Island. We... more

Everything good everyone else has said about this fantastic little hotel is true. I have often seen those wonderful photos in broachers, but this is the first time in all my extensive travelling that I have ever been lucky enough to find them. 2 of our group went on the whale shark tour which they said was amazing and they... more
