Was thrilled to see this place on arrival. Newly painted it looked gorgeous in its surroundings. Cape Cod cottage style. Had the Acadian room which I think is the nicest one. We were on PEI for 6 days. Stayed at Historic Maplethorpe all 5 nights. Have stayed in fancy places and inexpensive places. Seldom do you get both. And I'm not even going to start on the fabulous breakfasts that are part of your room, as well as lunches that are available at the small attached restaurant. Good food, wonderfully plated.... More

We had the best nights at the historic maplethorpe after weeks of discovering east canada with lots of impressions. It is beautiful and really silent, near a great beach and a cliff. Other reviewers have noted the small bathrooms. However, keep in mind that our room was $100 per night, including breakfast. We paid as much as $250 per night in other PEI inns -- and they had bigger bathrooms. One gets what one pays for. Off the beaten path but well located to the Confederation Bridge and touring the western, northern and central parts of the island. Room is comfortable. Bathroom is a bit small but it works. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast is fabulous. Owner is a trained pastry chef. She runs a cafe at the same location that serves weekday lunches and weekend dinners.... More

Window screen in room had wide torn gap at bottom and when problem identified was resolved with a large strip of scotch tape. Screen in hall window also in poor condition. This is in mosquito season . Private small bathroom although the only mirror was approx. 8"x10" mounted right in the corner and of no use. Towels replaced daily however... More
