We rented bungalows on the beach. It was clean and cozy and spacious. Location is perfect; beach was almost empty; just divers were there. Clean white send and turquoise water. Perfect diving. stuff were helpful

As part of a diving tour group we were advised this was “the place” for diving in Cuba. While accurate about diving it did not apply to the hotel. It appeared the Maria La Gorda hotel had recently undergone renovations with the addition of eleven (11) new building a 44 rooms. It also looked like they were still in the... More

The hotel itself is very average, although recently renewed hence I guess today it's looking much better than it used to? Basic rooms, no frills, but there is AC, a fridge, and our shower worked just fine. The included buffet was quite good, with a chef grilling fresh meat/fish to order. Nice staff, very helpful. There are sandflies, yes. But... More

The hotel is fine, really. Not great or charming but the rooms are big and clean (at least in the new buildings). The food is average. You don't go here for dining, you go here for diving. The hotel staff, especially the manager was very nice. We had some issues with the travel agency we booked via and the manager... More

We stayed here as part of a tour group - if you are not into diving, there is no reason to come here. The location is quite far from anything, so when the weather is bad, there is nothing to do. We were unable to go diving (or sit on the beach) due to the bad weather. There is a... More

Our group of 18 people stayed there for 2 nights in March 2014. Half of us got eaten alive by bedbugs. I could see them underneath the nasty bedspreads they had on the beds, and they were crawling on the very stained pillows which had no pillow cases. The rooms are nice, but I would never stay there again. The... More

Pro's Great location Great diving (apparently) Good snorkelling from shore Great wildlife nearby Con's Expensive to get to Diving courses that are advertised and then cancelled at the last minute. Really poor food. You try and avoid eating if you can but it's difficult because there's no alternatives within reach Average rooms Very unreliable water supply whilst I was there... More

We were there over xmas 2013 and it was an experience. Beach was great, snorkling fine, but the hotel, something different. First of all, that MUSIC. when you come all the way out to maria de la Gorda, you do not want to hear an uninspired band playing the cheesiest of salsa all day long. You want to enjoy the... More

The beach is beautiful, especially around sunset if you can withstand the midges (in December, at least), the sea is warm and clear and you only have to snorkel a few metres to start seeing the fish. The hotel is all alone, effectively in a nature reserve, there are lots of birds and, by all accounts, iguanas too, although we... More

I had a great three nights at Maria La Gorda. To be honest, if you're not into diving, you can probably find easier to reach places, that are just as nice - but I wanted to get wet, and wasn't disappointed. They dive three times a day (9, 11.30 and 3ish generally), with good facilities and equipment. Some of the... More
