Unless you dive this hotel is not worth visiting. Most rooms are in blocks of four, old and rundown. The food is average, in fact nothing is worth the long drive to get here. The dive boats seemed overcrowded and as a recently qualified diver far too busy for me.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights as we wanted to do some diving. We stayed in wooden cabins which were very clean, had good showers and a balcony with table and chairs outside. Our cabin was for three people with good sized beds for each. There were so many butterflies surrounding our cabin and the beach is beautiful... More

This location is off the beaten track, since it is at the far western tip of Cuba - we went with a group otherwise may not have made it there - it has a dive/snorkeling center which accounts for most of the stays at this hotel - we found the units to be very good (for Cuba), the beach with... Our group of sixteen birdwatchers stayed here in order to be close to prime birding locations. I am not a diver or a beach-goer, except to look for wildlife. I understand from our guide that the hotel has expanded considerably over past several years. When we weren't out birding elsewhere, we wandered the hotel grounds and saw some good birds.... More

We spent 3 nights of a 10 day Cuba trip in Maria la Gorda. We went specifically to dive and we were not disappointed with the dives. The hotel itself is...lackluster. It looks ok on the outside. The room was good sized and had an ocean view. The bed was the worst we had had in Cuba (3 different casa... More

We hired a car to travel down to Maria La Gorda, Whilst this took a few hours travelling from Vinales. Although the roads were rather poor, driving with care and rather slowly, we arrived without mishap. The hotel is largely unloved and very basis and very expensive for a low standard of accommodation and food (in the restaurant and part... More

We spent 5 nights at Maria La Gorda. The rooms are grouped into 4/building. First night while showering, the sewer backed up into the bathroom and spread into the bedroom. Stench was awful. We moved rooms and next was was okay. Sandflies & mosquitos bite you everywhere, including in the room. Buffet was mediocre. Diving was good. Saw plenty of... More

First a word of warning. You will need a car to do the 4 hour journey to this peninsula and the hire cars will inevitably get punctures and when you arrive there is no garage facilities to get you back on the road, so go prepared. Once in the park you will seldom meet another person and you can enjoy... More

We spent three days at Maria la Gorda early September and it was a mixed experience. It is very remote: allow at least 4 hours driving from Havana and make sure you travel by day as the roads are not lit, are potholed and veer through villages where people, horses, dogs (and crabs) are prone to walk onto them suddenly.... The hotel provided an ideal base for our trip to this part of Cuba to see butterflies. We stayed in a wooden cabin in garden. It was great being close to nature and the sea. Buffet food was always palatable and a reasonable variety. Dining room staff worked very hard. Everywhere very clean Superb location on a deserted beach. Convenient... More
