On check in we were greeted with a smile and promptly showed our rooms (there was a slight delay as we were a party of 12). The rooms were a decent size, warm, quiet and comfortable. The bathroom could do with modernising; however the shower was excellent. The food and service at dinner was fantastic and thoroughly deserved the Rossette... more

Our golfing party of 12-14 stayed for 2 nights over 16th/17th September, and the feedback I have received from individuals has been nothing but praise for the hotel and the staff. As organiser, the proactive action by the staff on all issues and the willingness "to go the extra mile" made my job "painless". Points worthy of mention are: -... more

An awful hotel which should be avoided as there are much better bed and breakfasts nearby and in better locations. The staff here messed up our booking. This was a blessing with hindsight, as we only stayed one night instead of two, as a result. The room was dark on a slope and had sweet wrappers etc underneath the bed.... more

This customer booked a room with this hotel on line through Booking. Com. When a customer books through Booking.com, the Hotel automatically receives a faxed confirmation. With respect to this customer, we did not and this is the first time that this has occurred. As such, the hotel did not mess up what it did not receive! As there was...

This is a really well run traditional hotel that understands customer service. We booked 2 rooms for one night. We were allocated a double room and a family room with double bed and bunks and heaps of room, lovely fresh towels and bedding and beautifully decorated. Both rooms situated on the top floor had well equipped bathrooms with good showers... more

This holiday was our first in the UK for a number of years and also the first time we had ever taken our dog with us. Don't be immediately put off by the fact that dogs are welcome at this hotel as while we were there, I think there was only one other there and you would not have noticed... more

The Royal Sportsman has been extensively refurbished. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is excellent and the service is exceptional. The staff are all efficient, welcoming and friendly. Just one thing - watch out for the electric showers, particularly if you are using them at a time of day when lots of other guests are doing likewise. It's... more

A superb hotel in the midst of spectacular countryside. The welcome is first rate, the rooms comfortable and spotless, the food is superlative and the staff are efficient, friendly and attentive. There is a well stocked and popular bar (no noise in the evenings). The food is just superb comprising a mixture of Modern European and Traditional, using local Welsh... more

We stayed at the Sportsman a few days after the restaurant received its AA rosette award. We must say this was well deserved. The new menus are varied and exciting, excellently presented and good value for money. This applies top both the modern European and traditional English menus. The extensive breakfast menu is also most impressive, with a wider choice... more
