If you take the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog and return, the timetable allows approximately only 1hr 45minutes at Porthmadog which means there is no a lot of time for lunch. A great place to stay if you are visiting the area. You can walk from the hotel to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. Called in on spec last Wednesday lunchtime. Saw that we could take our dog in. We had a lovely snack, cooked well and presented nicely; even a bowl of water for the pooch. The staff were very friendly without being intrusive. Loved the quaint spelling on the Cocktial [sic] list! A pleasant hour spent in great surroundings. Thank you.

I turned up at The Royal Sportsman not having booked a room - stupid boy! How lucky was I that they had one of my favourite rooms vacant - no 3 a garden room. The hotel is warm, welcoming and the staff are all very pleasant and genuinely ensure that guests are looked after. Well worth a visit.
