We decided to have a short break in North Wales and booked into the Royal Sportsman hotel in Porthmadog. On our arrival we were given a warm welcome especially from Gelert the dog, (he was a rescue dog and they support an animal rescue home). Our bedroom was on the side of the hotel and did not have much of... more

As the organiser of Norwegian walking groups in N. Wales in mid May for the last two years, I have used the Royal Sportsman as our base in Porthmadog for the Ffestiniog Railway/Moelwyns and on to Snowdon. The groups have been very pleased with the accommodation but especially so with the 'family' ambiance of the hotel combined with the excellent... more

I booked the Royal Sportsman for my 50th birthday celebration with my extended family, and we all really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Louis the manager took the time to check everything was OK throughout our stay whilst Viorica his charming wife looked after us in the restaurant. This is... more

We selected the hotel because of its cenntral location. We were given an extremely warm welcome by the owner, and his dog, and he gave us a potted history of his hotel. The room was small but comfortable and clean. We ate in the restaurant on both the nights we were there. The food was very good and the staff... more

A group of thirty people from ages 3 to 69 stayed for the weekend at the Royal Sportsman, we all came to the same conclusion - the hotel is hugely overpriced. The rooms were clean but if you are not in the main hotel and you are placed in the back your room will be very dark and very damp.... more

We stayed at the Royal Sportsman Hotel at Christmas 2008 for 3 nights, this being at least the fifth time we have stayed at the hotel. We found the rooms and the public areas of the hotel exceptionally clean, and the staff and management to be friendly and courteous, in fact they couldn’t do enough for us to make our... more

This in an interesting hotel with a long history in the area. I have stayed in this hotel a number of times the first as child 45 years ago when there were open fires in the bedrooms. Now the open fires are still burning but only in the bar and lounge. This hotel has been transformed from an auful place... more

This hotel is quite a find. I am fortunate enough to have travelled extensively, and can readily appreciate that it is the little things which differentiate the excellent from the mediocre. All too often hotels merely go through the motions, aiming to impress on a superficial level. True hospitality requires a more ambitious scope, which this hotel clearly embraces. In... more

We booked a family room at the Royal Sportsman Hotel for my brother in laws wedding. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and the staff were lovely. We had a family room of a double bed and bunkbeds. The room was lovely and clean and warm with everything you need from a cup of tea... more
