Last minute booking when arrived in the town. Given viewing option of two types of room available. Took the bigger room. The room was clean and tidy but the bathroom could have done with a more thorough clean. Mark around the inside of bath not really attractive. The bar downstairs is open to the public and is ready for an... More

Stayed at the Sportsman for one night.Friendly greeting from reception on arrival. Room was spacious and clean, as was the en-suite. We had a good night's sleep.Plenty of good quality tea and biscuits - even a tea-pot! Went down to breakfast, held in a very attractive dining room. Service was quick, staff attentive to our needs. Breakfast was excellent and... More

Thanks for this excellent 'snapshot' review - covering most aspects of our facilities/service - based on just a one night stay. We strive very hard to provide friendly and excellent service, best quality for reasonable value, and something a little bit different - that bit of character which distinguishes us from the rest - which an increasing number of customers/guests... We booked 2 rooms,15 and 27, for 3 nights with friends, both rooms facing the road but no traffic noise. Rooms spacious and very clean with good large en-suites. Hand basins very small and blinds at window might be an idea in the en suite, but spotlessly clean with fresh towels every day. If you are a foody you will... More

If a hotel could really choose its ideal guests - the ones that fit all its core values and marketing visions etc - then these two couples are ours! Having thoroughly enjoyed their stay, they gave us superb face-to-face feedback at check-out and promised they would do exactly the same on Trip Advisor - et voila! So by the very... More

Have stayed at this Hotel many times and I always receive a high standard. The staff are all very friendly and helpful the standard of room cleanliness is very high. The food is great and a comfortable stay is always received. Highly recommended.

It's particularly pleasing to receive such a glowing tribute from regular, repeat guests because it clearly shows we consistently sustain and constantly try to improve our already very high standards! Basically, a leading AA 3-star hotel with 2 AA Rosette food such as ours must get the basics - friendly staff, clean rooms, great meals, and comfort - right as... More

As someone said to me recently, hotel receptionists enjoy meeting all their guests - most when they check in and some when they check out! This guest was a pleasure to welcome and accommodate, though obviously it's advisable to book ahead when our hotel can be very busy especially between April-October! All our rooms and en-suite bathrooms were re-furbished up... More

Ideally located for the Ffestiniog and Welsh highland Railway as well as the local service along the coast. Plus points: Reasonably priced, welcoming, friendly bar, good breakfast. Not so good points: It needs upgrading, some areas are looking worn; the restaurant we felt was overpriced but that's subjective. I stayed in a single room and you can't judge a hotel... More

Another genuine set of mixed views, with lots of praise for the essentials - ideal location, reasonably priced, welcoming, friendly bar, and good breakfast - and with no real grumbles (except upgrade decor, offer cheaper restaurant prices, provide bigger beds in single rooms - all are actually industry-standard sized - and the duvet seemed stuck, though they can easily be... Porthmadog isn't overly blessed with hotels. In the town, B&Bs and the Travelodge appear to be the Royal Sportsman's main competition. There is nothing wrong with the Sportsman, it is very well located, comfortable enough and reasonably priced although the main restaurant is expensive for what it is. Breakfast is fine with a good choice and the staff seem friendly.... More

A decent and honest review which correctly highlights that we are the town's only full-service, AA 3-star hotel - well located, comfortable, good breakfasts, friendly staff, and reasonably-priced - with no equivalent competition. Obviously, while we agree that some further aspects of decor do need - and will eventually get - a 'spruce up' under my relatively new ownership and... More

Stayed at the hotel for only one night as a last minute break in Wales. We needed a hotel that would accept dogs and this place was great. We were allocated a Courtyard Room and it was clean and tidy. The large bar accepted the dogs and the meal in the restaurant (without the dogs!) was very nice indeed. Great... More

What a lovely review! We are delighted you found us - we try very hard not to be a "hidden gem"! - and that you (and your dog) enjoyed last-minute break. Thanks for praising your courtyard room, our Gelert's Bar (named after the hound of Welsh legend), the restaurant meal (only guide/help dogs allowed), a great breakfast (among the best... More

Visited this hotel for the second time Initially I could not get the 4 nghts I preferred but the booking staff did sort me out a suitable alternative I mentioned car parking (blue badge) at the time of booking and that was arranged The hotel itself has a high standard The bedroom was spacious and comfortable (No.11) There was not... Another very comprehensive review praising everything about our booking arrangements, reserved parking for Blue Badge holders (or others with walking difficulties), the rooms, accessories, and the food! This guest makes an extremely valid point: our Reception team will do their absolute utmost to oblige customers/guests who say at the time what they would prefer or if they think something is... Arrived after a lovely trip from Caernarfon fleeing a grim hotel experience in Chester. Slightly put off by the rather solid frontage right on the high street and a long climb up four flights of stairs to the room - but, when we opened the door we started to relax immediately. Big top floor room with two single beds, two... More

We are delighted our larger twin room and the hotel's homely atmosphere helped you unwind and relax the moment you arrived from Chester, came in from the High Street, and reached the second floor. Many guests comment positively about the facilities and accessories in their room - our housekeeping team got their first-ever five-star rating by a hotel inspector in... More
