Caught up with an old friend today here for lunch, his choice of location not mine. Really impressive gardens and plenty of seating which was a real bonus. Service was good but the food was average. Bit pricy for average food.

I have been a customer of the French Hen for many years, slowly but surely over the last few years both the food and service has been declining. I have remained a loyal customer though as every time i go i hope that it will improve as i used to love it. However, my most recent visit was appalling and... More

What can I say! Terrible food and terrible service! After ordering the £20 fillet steak I was faced with a dry fatty piece of meat. When I complained the attitude of the staff was terrible. Rude, abrupt and treated me like I was stupid. I decided I would rather sit without a meal than reorder after being made to feel... More

First impressions were not good when we found the pile of side plates on our table were dirty. The menu looked great (but bore no relation to that on their website). The wine list had clealry been selected on a visit to the local cash and carry. And then the food arrived. Clearly the chef had never been to France... More

We popped in here after a wonderful meal at a different restaurant nearby. The contrast was palpable. The bar staff were disinterested. The drink selection was abysmal (6 real ale taps, though only 3 available and nothing special either). Spirits were very uninspiring. If you like premium lager then you'll be okay. This pub has gone downhill in the five... More

This was my first visit to The French Hen. We passed it on a drive out through Clent and it looked quite inviting. First impressions seem quite pleasing with a bar area to the left and a restaurant area to the right on entrance. At the back of the bar was another room with tables and a nice open fire.... More

Went for lunch, arrived at 12.30 to find the chef sitting in the reception area, which really didn't create a great first impression! However the waitress was very friendly and helpful, but the food was a let down. A grilled haloumi salad starter was just ok, served with a few leaves and a very average dressing. The steak was tough.... More

Having been guests of this pub/restaurant for many years, we have, after our 3rd dreadful experience decided to call it a day. Our most recent visit we noticed that only 3 customer facing staff were on duty. Not a problem as it wasn't very busy but the 2 waitresses who were looking after us didn't appear to have any get... This was my second visit to the French Hen. The precious time I thought the meal was decent and good value. However this visit was highly disappointing. Complementary bread was raw. My friend ordered lamb shank- probably the worst lamb shank I've ever seen. 99% fat. I ordered the beef burgingnon- i very much doubt this was freshly made. Meat... More

Thoroughly enjoyed eating here. The place is gorgeous inside - French country style - and the food was absolutely delicious. Quite expensive but well worth it for a special treat. We polished off everything!
