This was my first visit to The French Hen. We passed it on a drive out through Clent and it looked quite inviting. First impressions seem quite pleasing with a bar area to the left and a restaurant area to the right on entrance. At the back of the bar was another room with tables and a nice open fire.... More

Went for lunch, arrived at 12.30 to find the chef sitting in the reception area, which really didn't create a great first impression! However the waitress was very friendly and helpful, but the food was a let down. A grilled haloumi salad starter was just ok, served with a few leaves and a very average dressing. The steak was tough.... More

Having been guests of this pub/restaurant for many years, we have, after our 3rd dreadful experience decided to call it a day. Our most recent visit we noticed that only 3 customer facing staff were on duty. Not a problem as it wasn't very busy but the 2 waitresses who were looking after us didn't appear to have any get... This was my second visit to the French Hen. The precious time I thought the meal was decent and good value. However this visit was highly disappointing. Complementary bread was raw. My friend ordered lamb shank- probably the worst lamb shank I've ever seen. 99% fat. I ordered the beef burgingnon- i very much doubt this was freshly made. Meat... More

Thoroughly enjoyed eating here. The place is gorgeous inside - French country style - and the food was absolutely delicious. Quite expensive but well worth it for a special treat. We polished off everything!

The French Hen is one of our favourite restaurants. It's great to be able to have a drink in the bar, either at the bar or in a comfy sofa before going through to the restaurant. And afterwards for a wee dram: they have some really nice single malt scotch on offer. I chose Lagavulin 16. The food is always... More

We stayed for one night and found the room to be of a very basic standard. You could see the mattress through the sheet and the shower was cold. There was mould around the shower cubicle and the room was incredibly hot. The comparison between the standard of food and drink and the accommodation was stark indeed. When I phoned... More

Second visit, today, first for Sunday lunch. Food was lovely on both visits, a bit pricey but lovely for special occasions. Only gripes was service was a bit up and down, served us 4 starters and had to ask for the 5th. and couple of waitresses a bit moody looking, maybe because it was busy but thats no excuse. They... Visited a few times at lunchtime. Always found us a table even if busy. Food of good quality although the vegetables with Sunday lunch can be a little bland. Nice garden at the back which is a good spot to enjoy a drink in the sun. No riff raff or yobs on a day out from Birmingham!
