We had booked to see a band in town and as we generally prefer a hotel with a bit of character we decided to try out the Talbot. Had I checked the TA reviews first we may have reconsidered! Oh well. We arrived to find a young man having a smoke in the car park who directed us to reception,... More

The staff was friendly, slanting walls and floors, but what do you want in an old building of about 400 years old, that makes this place so special. Every day clean towels, we where staying in 4 rooms for 2 days. There where some minor inconveniences but this was largely compensated by the atmosphere in this grade 2, English Heritage... More

We stayed at the Talbot in June 2015. We were totally prepared for the hotel to be older and a little shabby, as that was part of the charm. Historically it was fascinating. However, of all of the hotels we stayed in during our trip to the UK, the staff here were very unfriendly and not helpful. When we arrived... More

22/12/15 I travel for business and stay in possibly 200 hotels a year. I've never experienced anything quite as bad as this. I was supposed to stay here last night. I got back from an evening out with friends at midnight, to an empty reception, and my key locked away (I'd left it there to pick up later, as it... More

In Response to your comments when you check in you are explained that the hotel is not manned 24 hours there is however a duty manager on call throughout the night. We explained that if you will return after 11pm that it is best to keep the keys on you as one of the keys will open the back door... More

We stayed at the Talbot during December. We found the room ok but nothing special. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean. The duvet had seen better days and there was black mould all around the window frame. The best thing about the hotel was the food and the staff ,two meals for £10 and starters and deserts only... If you love old world Inns, this is the place to stay, lots of features, nothing is truly vertical or horizontal so be prepared for sloping floors and windows that either don't open or close fully. Unfortunately having booked two rooms, one was reservation was missing but luckily there was one left but not at the standard booked. It was... More

We had a one night stay. First room had a beAm right across the middle of the room, and was totally unsuitable, best room appeared ok but the lights etc were not working in the en suite. The third room we were given was a superior room. It was comfortable and clean, but the Devore needed upgrading. Also a number... More
