Eleven of us spent 2 memorable nights here to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Christine, the Manageress, made every effort to ensure that we all had a good time. The delightful garden room was set aside for the birthday dinner and the food and service were of a very high standard. The rooms are spacious, well maintained, comfortable and immaculate.... More

We just spent a delightful six nights at the hotel, everyone excellent. The evening meals are outstanding and varied as is breakfast. The room was excellent and well looked after by very friendly staff who maintained the high standards of Christine, the manager.

Had a two night stay here recently and was highly impressed. The Manageress Christine is a true delight and the standards in this hotel are high in all aspects. Able to have my favourite smoked salmon and scrambled eggs breakfast but had to ask for half sized portion the second day! Excellent dinner both nights with one of the best... More

Just returned home from a trip that included the Centre of Britain. This place cannot be bettered. Everything about it is of high quality and the manager and her staff are exceptional. Large characterfull room, (number 3) complete with its own sauna. Everywhere spotless. Lovely food in lovely surroundings. We are now looking for a reason to visit again!

Detoured from Pennine Way to Haltwhistle to catch Lambley viaduct. Great food and value and a very nice room. Christine, the manager, was super friendly and helpful to two weary and muddy hikers. Would definitely recommend!

The Center of Britain is nicely located on the main street, close to shops and a couple of nice pubs. The bus is handy to get one to Hadrian's Wall walks. Christine runs the hotel and prepares all the food with an easy going manner that belies the quality of the food. No matter breakfast, lunch or dinner she always... More

Great accommodation, wonderful food and a fantastic warm welcome from Christine and staff. Absolutely nothing negative, just hospitality at its best, with great attention to detail. The breakfasts were amazing. Packed lunches were huge! Dinner was very good.

What a find. Fabulous rooms, ours had a sauna. Fantastic evening meal, we ate in a smaller, intimate dining room with our friends. Friendly bar and public area. One disappointment was the breakfast, a bit too greasy for me but most of it was eaten! I would highly recomend this hotel

What a great place! A charming market town with this wonderful hotel to stay in. Christine was so welcoming and serves up first rate food as well. We hope she finds the energy to continue to exceed the expectations of her guests. Rooms (in the rear courtyard) were great. Compact, warm, well equipped, clean and comfortable. The evening meal was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This is Haltwhistle’s most historic building. The oldest part of the hotel was a Border Reivers' Pele Tower, dating from the 15th Century. Later it became a Manor House, Excise Office, Coaching Inn, Post Office, Temperance Hotel, Pub and Cafe. In 1997 we completely refurbished the building, finding many archaeological and architectural features - many of which have been included in the presentation of the reborn Hotel. The result – a combination of modern comfort & Tradition. We have a total of 12 bedrooms, all individually designed many with original architectural features. All have private bathrooms and are equipped with TV, radio, direct dial telephones, hospitality trays and hair dryers. We have a secure car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the rearSo, there is something for everyone, but most of all a warm welcome with a relaxed style and atmosphere to make you feel at home. ... more   less
