we stayed at the Saughy Rigg Farm on our way doing the Hadrian's Wall Path. Since we did not look up any of our accommodations beforehand, we were expecting a room in a farm, but what awaited us, was more than we could ever have expected: a really nice hotel with guests from all over the place and with excelent... We stayed for a couple of nights while cycling the Hadrians Cycleroute. This is a little off the route but well worth struggling over Steel Rigg as the welcome is first rate and the food excellent. The building does have an air of work in progress but our room was clean and tidy, everything worked and it did not detract... More

Another contributor writes that this place is in transition. How true! Saughy Rigg is situated in a beautiful setting, unfortunately, the bit they own is surrounded by rubbish and the grounds are neglected. Inside much of it is like a building site. The welcome was warm. The bedroom was clean but unfinished - the bathroom came with no skirting boards... More

While walking Hadrians' wall, my husband and I had the privilege of staying here for one night. We were supposed to stay two nights, but the B&B was booked solid. This was probably my favorite accomodation of the entire trip. After several days of accomodations with only small showers, the luxurious bathtub was a real treat. Views of the crags... More

Saughy Rigg Farm appears to be in transition from a working farm to be an ecological stop on the Hadrian's Wall walk. approximately a mile north of the route a call on arrival at the car park at Steel Rigg allows for a 10 minute pick up and lift to the farm. The new wing is clean and provides all... More

Saughy Rigg is as expected a relief from the rigours of the Hadrians' Wall walk (well organised by Mickledore Holidays), and we found it plain but well organised considering the numbers coming through. However the room was probably the smallest described, and had enough power points, but the en-suite was just dark, worn out and in need of a serious... More

We stayed as walkers on hadrians wall and would advise people to phone to get picked up as it is quite a walk from steel rigg. The room was fine and comfortable but the shower did not work and the downstairs carpet was wet. So why wasnt this a terrible experience. Well, everyone was very friendly and cheerful. coffee and... I stayed here with two friends. None of us was happy with it. The owners offered to pick us up from the Hadrian’s Wall path, but when we phoned them, we just got a recorded message saying they could not come to the phone. So we had to walk. The lift back to the Hadrian’s Wall path the next day... More

We spent 2 nights here as we walked along Hadrian's Wall. The B&B is about 1 mile north of the Steel Rigg car park, so not much of a diversion, but the owners are also willing to pick up and drop off hikers. We stayed in room 11 which was spacious with the 4-poster queen sized bed I've read about... More

What a find, beautiful accommodation (four poster), and what must be an award winning restaurant each year. You are left to mingle, or relax on own, in beautiful location, what more could a walker ask for?
