Great food with good service and friendly cosy pub with a lovely atmosphere. Well worth the visit and we'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended especially for a rather damp May Bank Holiday Sunday.

We had walked from Haltwhistle passed the Milecastle Inn but it was too early for a drink. After we had walked for a couple of hours we came back to find it open. Nice people & nice pub. Good choice of food & drink. Welcoming fire for those cold days. Please note that in the winter weekday hours lunch is... More

We popped in on Christmas Day after a long day's walk along the trail, to find that the inn was actually closed. But the kind hosts offered drinks and advice in how to travel onwards, and allowed us to stay with them until transportation had been found. Great hospitality at this friendly place - thank you!

We visited in November and were starving following an energetic walk along Hadrians Wall from the Steel Rigg Car Park to Housesteads and back via the Military Road. This pub couldn't have been in a better location for us. I had a very tastey chicken and mushroom pie with salad and boiled potatoes and my sister had chicken and rice... More

We stopped at the Milecastle for lunch on the way from Newcastle to Carlisle and were warmly greeted by the landlady and a fantastic, log fire burning in the bar. The Christmas decorations added to the atmosphere as we sat and had a drink looking out over the military road. As we were on our way to a family get-together... More

On a grey wintry evening, we received a lovely warm welcome by the landlady at this character-full country pub. The meals were good traditional pub nosh, the portions generous and all perfectly cooked - the veg especially was crisp, fresh and tasty and not the soggy stuff that so many pubs seem to serve up now. The only thing that... More

Stopped off at the Milecastle Inn on the way back from a day out in Scotland with the familyh, and we were starving. The food was quick in coming, ample and totally delicious. I also disagree with other reviews saying that the food was expensive, I thought the pub food was actually quite reasonable. There are definitely more expensive meals... More

Caught in a rain storm, we ventured into the pub while waiting for a bus. No problems with wet clothes and muddy boots. Good selection on menu but food was average. Food was hot, chips fresh and veg ok. Meat in the game pie was good but it was obviously just heated in microwave. Pastry was tough. Overall not bad.

Reviewing resturant only, NOT accomodation! A real fire burns to welcome you in, the hunting-themed decor is slightly tasteless but not too bad, it feels on the whole quite warm, cosy and friendly. Food is tasty and the portions are good sized. It is let down by the difficult doorway that makes wheelchair access tough and the complete absence of... More
