The welcome was friendly and the menu offered a very good choice. Although the food was tasty, it seemed very fatty. The beef strips starter came smothered in very oily onions and was strangely complemented with fried bread. The main spicy chicken dish also left the overall taste of oil/ fat. On the plus side, the portions were generious and... More

Myself and my partner came here for Sunday lunch on two occasions, the food was lovely and on the first visit we were sat next to the window with lovely views of the river, the staff were all friendly and the place had a nice feel to it. It was busy that day so a wait was expected but almost... More

I stopped here for Lunch over the weekend, during a circular walk from Hay on Wye. I have visited the Boat sevral times over the years, so I was expecting a pleasant welcome but a slightly antiquated interior. The staff were very friendly and lunch for me was great, albeit a bowl of chips and tea. most welcome after 10... More

Found this pub on Tripadvisor. We visited it two nights running because the food was very good. It has a varied menu, good value for money and good service. Nice chips! A lovely friendly dog. Went on Saturday, glad we booked as it was very busy. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

A miserable experience all round ,a cold pub with a cold reception from the staff. We ate the fish cakes they tasted like washing up liquid perhaps they been made with fairy fish. No bottled beer on offer just cider draft beer not to good either.

Set in a lovely location, staff are always very welcoming, nicely laid out restaurant and the food is delicious. Fab to see a place ahead of the times with gf options enough to vary if visiting more than once! Brilliant place and will be back again!

Excellent pub lunch with an extensive varied menu. We had a table overlooking the River Wye and had monk fish and salmon kebab on tagliatelle with tarragon sauce, fish pie, faggots and chips. Beautiful view over the meadow with the sight of five herons.

Miserable barman, I believe he was the landlord, was most unwelcoming. It seems he does not like canoeists yet they bring him custom. I would never voluntarily visit this place again. Chips were nice!

We've been to the Boat after walking or a trip to hay and have always had an outstanding meal. Very friendly staff, and even got to see the otters playing by the river from the window. Beautiful home made food
