This is not a hotel. In spite of the photos with the words "hotel" and "restaurant" prominently on view, this is a bed and breakfast. There is a bar, but it is pretty basic with only a limited range. No bar food available. Breakfast is at 9am only, with no flexibility. The breakfast I had was excellent. My room was... More

We booked (via an agency) 4 weeks in advance of a walking trip, one double and a single. Meeting in Hay we arrived at 5 pm prepared to freshen up before finding somewhere for dinner. The entrance didn't inspire confidence, v gloomy, coated in cobwebs and in need of TLC, the door being locked added further disquiet. Eventually opened by... More

Stayed overnight whilst attending Hay-on Wye festival (which was excellent). Lovely old building in a convenient easy to find location. I liked the sloping floors and the quirky features but overall it did not match my expectations of a 4 star property. Bathroom fittings were poor - top came off the hot tap and the cold tap was rather chalked... More

This is an exceptionally quirky old inn. The floors lean all over the place and even the external view has the entrance at a quite noticeable angle. Parts of the inn are dated in the 14th century. Our room (number 6) was very large with a large bathroom, but no shower. Clean and very well presented with all of the... More

Not the first time I have been here but it never changes. Delightful old inn with a laid-back style thanks to its relaxed host. The restaurant is no longer serving, but the breakfast is hearty and will see you through most of the day. The location is excellent for Hay-on-Wye, its books and Summer and Winter Festivals - do go.... More

Really lovely inn in a beautiful area. Landlord is very welcoming and charming, had a great overnight stay before a weekend off roading. Cannot fault anything and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

This is a lovely old country inn with wibbly wobbly floors and doorways to duck through. We were met by our friendly host, ( and owner), and shown to our a big room with comfy bed with adjoining similarly generously sized bathroom. He recommended a nearby pub for our evening meal, (The Boat - food very good with view of... More

An amazing 14th century building which has been an inn for the large part of its life. Now no longer an inn but a B&B. No meals other than an excellent breakfast but there are plenty of places roundabout. Our room was very comfortable with a good modern bathroom, the dreaded Wi-Fi if you need it, a beautiful view and... More

We booked as we were visiting Hay and wanted an old country inn to stay in. When we received a letter to say that the property had been sold and would no longer do evening meals, we were disappointed but thought we would go anyway. The building is very interesting and characterful, but need some maintenance. We had booked the... More

To start with its 15 minutes from Hay on Wye in the car along a busy A road with occasional pavements, I would guess at least 45 minutes at a good pace to walk. The current owner serves only breakfast and NO other meals at all. The bar does not open until 6.30 pm and to be honest the lager... More
